How do you know if your child have adhd?
Answer:
They have be diagnosed after going through a series of tests by a qualified professional.
the doctor
talk to your doctor. adha can be hereditary. my son's doctor thinks he might be adhd but will not do the testing for it. he is only four and i was told that they will not test children for it until they are at least 6. personally i think that add and adhd are bull. if a child is too hyper the teachers want the child medicated so they can handle them better. my ex has a 6 year old son who was "diagnosed" with adhd and has been medicated and now he acts like a zombie...
oh believe me you should know. there is a 13 year old girl living beside me with ADHD. she smokes, gets drunk, sniffs, has sex, burns herself, has set herself on fire actually. and is just a nightmare really, u cant leave one bottle of beer anywere near her or she will have it gone in 5 seconds. i dont know if she has a serious form of ADHD or not but shes the only person i know who has it. so from that i always thought u would be able to tell from no age.
just look it up on the internet, there are many websites that give you a list.
A lot of times it's what you and the people around you can stand. if you don't have the patience to deal with a extra hyper kid then he might have ADHD to you but to others he just might be extremely hyper, that's it.
Talk to your pediatrician. He/she is the only one who can diagnose AD/HD. The teacher should provide you with checklists. The teachers are also good help in this as they see the child in school. The checklists, combined with your input, will help the doctor make a diagnosis one way or the other. Do not allow anyone to tell you your child has AD/HD except the doctor!
Although it is diagnosed by a doctor here is a link thats shows the exact critera needed to diagnose ADD/HD as outlined by the Diagnostic Statistical Manual IV.
If you find yourself constantly battling with unfinished homework. If your child always forgets things you ask him to do 2 minutes ago. If your child never seems to listen. If he doesn't seem to walk but always runs. If he acts like a runaway train with no regards to things around him. If very smart but can't learn in a regular school setting (many ADHD children are also gifted, all ADHD kids would do better in an unconventional school setting). If he can concentrate better when moving around. If he can do some math in his head but takes forever to transfer his work on paper. If he has a hard time making friends. If he has no respect for others personal space. If he takes a long time to do things like taking a shower, putting on clothes because he is distracted by just about anything around him, he might have ADHD. SEE about a diet change. See about changing your expectations.
