What are some creative ways to spend my days with a nine month old?
Answer:
It's never too early to read books to your baby. Use different voices and inflections. It's a great bonding activity and it made a huge difference with my now 3 1/2 year old. Because we read to her from the time she was an infant, she now loves books and is very intersted in stories, words and letters on the page.
I have an 8 month old and we do a variety of things. Off the top of my head: peek-a-boo, patty cake, songs, etc., holding his/her hands and letting him pull up or "walking him" around the room is good, too. Give him/her some plastic lids and bowls to bang around and chew on. Also, imitate some of the sounds he/she is making to reinforce his/her language. Have little "conversations" with him/her. Narrate the world around him. Get on his level and play with him on the floor giving lots of eye contact and verbal feedback, show him how his toys work, etc. Play music and dance around while holding him. Also, putting down a large blanket scattered with age appropriate toys and letting him figure things out is a good idea, too. Giving him a change of scenery can be helpful...letting him play in different rooms of the house and letting him experience the outdoors when it is appropriate. Taking him/her along on errands is a learning experience for our little ones as well. Let him/her play a little while in the bath before you wash him.
Hope this helps!
Talking to them, reading to them, holding them and massaging them, playing music or singing to them, taking them for a walk if the weather allows. They're wonderful!
