If you have adopted? We are approved, looking, recommendations or connections? We were told to start looking.?
Answer:
Sounds like we are in the same boat. Waiting Parents. My husband and I are going through an agency in the Washington DC area, the barker foundation. We are seeking a domestic placement and have been waiting since our homestudy approval last April 2006. It is an emotional rollercoaster. I am not sure if you are going through an agency or going the private route. What I can recommend is for you to start talking to everyone about it. One of my friends was approved 4 years ago, and was speaking with a "friend of a friend" at a cookout, this woman had a neice who was 13 and pregnant. Within a month and a 1/2, she adopted this little girl. That is the "quickie" story, that really does not happen alot. I would also consider advertising. I have heard that a good adoption ad run in a large paper for 3 months costs around 3 grand, and the results are mixed. You also have to be leary of scam artists when going this route. Talk to your obgyn. Explain your plan to him/her. You never know when they will be examining a young girl or even a mother of 3 already, who cannot raise another child and would consider the adoption-option.
Again, waiting is the hardest part. You have to have a ton of patience and to be able to give up control, as you really don't have any when it comes to this. To pass the time, I recommend journaling, attending adoption seminars in your area (search the web for them in your area), reading, reading reading! i wish you luck!
Are you looking for a baby, school aged, one, siblings? if you're not picky, talk to your county's social services about kids in foster care. A good agency will find you the child/ren, not tell you to go looking.
