1st birthday dilemma!?
Answer:
Most people will be looking to eat cake, so don't worry too much about other food.
Make a banner that says "HAPPY BIRTHDAY ----" and hang it up in a doorway. Make it colorful!
Go to the Dollar Tree and get some decorations. If you don't have one, there's SOME place that sells things for a buck. Sometimes they're independent. Get two colors of streamers for a dollar apiece, a pack of hats for a dollar, some plates and plastic cups at a dollar per pack, and maybe a plastic tablecloth in colors matching the streamers. Also a dollar. If you get all that at the Dollar Tree it would come to $6 ... more if you get extra hats, streamers, cups, etc. Don't get any plastic forks or anything because the kids won't use them anyhow.
Make a cake yourself. Hold some batter aside and make him a cupcake (because he WILL spit on it or put his hands in it). Make a sheet cake! It takes less icing and goes further because the pieces look bigger from the top! Hold some of the icing aside as well (make sure you use white icing for this). Decorate it yourself with that icing. Put what you saved in a plastic baggie and smush some food coloring or cocoa powder in with it ... even Kool-Aid if it's all you have. Nobody will care what color it is. Cut a small hole in the corner of the bag and use it to squeeze out "Happy Birthday" on top. If there's some left over in there, squeeze a line around the top edge of the cake or draw ballons or the number 1. Presto! A decorated cake. Get the mix and frosting for a buck each at the Dollar Tree while you're there. That makes $8.
While you're at the Dollar Tree get his gifts, too if that's all you can afford. They have plastic dinosaurs and things like that. Some of them are big enough for him to not swallow it. They also have stuffed animals. Three or four of those will cost, obviously, three or four dollars. Get some wrapping paper if they have it. Two different-color rolls to make the presents look different. That makes $13.
For the extra food (meaning besides cake) pick up some chips at the same place. They might not be name-brand, but they're a dollar a bag. Buy say four bags (should be more than enough), and a colorful bowl to put them in if you don't have one. Get a bag of candy as well to leave out, and a bowl for that, too if you need it. That makes a grand total of $20 at the Dollar Tree.
Stop by the post office and get some more wrapping supplies ... this isn't well-known, but if you tell them you want to ship things via Priority Mail they will give you boxes and tape for free. Choose the right size boxes to fit the toys you got him at the Dollar Tree. Use their tape to wrap it. He doesn't care whether it's in real wrapping paper or not, or how much the gift cost. You just want to give him a nice party, and believe me, he will love it!
Bet you never thought you could have a $20 birthday! But you CAN! You're SuperMom and you can do anything. Or at least I'm sure your son will think so.
And it will look GREAT in the pictures if you try to get all those things the same colors. Like say pick red and blue and get everything in one or the other.
Wish your son a Happy Birthday for me!
i cooked hot dogs, had cake , ice cream, chips, dip, and party favors for children. you can even do chicken nuggets and fries -pick out whatever your baby''s fav. food is. its your son's day.
Make him a cake with a candle and let him blow it out. Then after you take some slices let him mess up his piece of cake good and proper. You can buy little inexpensive gifts that will fascinate him
I will be soon throwing a party for a friends kid, even tough it is not for the kid, it is for the other parents & memories of urs kid, follow a theme, something like pooh bear or elmo or teletubbies.
decent gifts can be bought from amazon.com (tax & shipping free) or at walmart. to stuff the gift bag you can add crayons and candies.
Food - pizza can work out cheap but party platters from Costco or safeway can be much decent.
hope it goes well
I would do finger foods because that is what kids like. hot dogs, nuggets, veggies and/or fruit with dip. We had an ice cream cake because my son loves ice cream. Then we still had a "cake" for the pics. We bought my son savings bonds for his birthday - they always need money in the future and the interest will grow each year.
I planned the 1 year old bday party for my mom's group because all of our kiddies were turning 1 at about hte same time at the zoo.it really depends on how much money you want to spend. With family (hubby, me, baby, my sister and my parents), we just did dinner and opened her presents at my parents house. I would say a bday party with hors d'ouvers rather than real food.in terms of gifts, to be honest, they don't necessarily need a large amount of presents, esp at the rate that they grow and the rate that they grow out of things. Maybe just a few things that you know he would like or that you see that he has an eye on or likes to play with. Re: pictures, if you're concerned about digital pix turning out right, you might want to take them with a digital camera rather than a 35mm just because then u have the option of erasing them or not printing out all of them.
Have a barbaque with alot of salad and fruits and put thm on a dish very attractivly so that the children will eat it. there isnt really anything you need at a 1st year old party.
Most grocery stores will provide you with a free mini cake for your child when you buy a full size sheet cake for their birthday. This way the child can demolish the whole cake after he blows out the candles and you can get some great pictures!
Kids that age are more amused with the wrapping paper and bows verses the actual presents. So I don't think it really matters what gifts you give them.
There isn't a right or a wrong way to throw a 1st birthday party. Just have fun with it!
