For those of you who had their kids potty trained in Head start?
Answer:
HeadStart is a program funded by the Federal Government to provide pre-school services to families that probably couldn't afford pre-school otherwise. The HeadStart programs that my children attended were clean and well-staffed by people who truly cared about not only the kids, but their families as well. As far as the potty training issue, I couldn't help you because my children were potty trained before they started attending the HeadStart program. If you're truly curious about whether the HeadStart program is for you, call them and schedule a visit. Or better yet, volunteer to help with the kids for a day -- they love parent/community involvement! Good luck!
I had my son trained by 1 1/2. When I knew he could walk and talk I started trainin him by time. 1 hour after each meal he sat on his pot until he produced something. Then when he did, I applauded him and told him he was a big boy. The last thing I did was I used cloth training pants with a plastic cover. When he went from diaper to training pants (not pull ups) this helped greatly. He didn't like the wet cold feeling in his pants. When I switched to trainig pants he was literally trained within a week!
Headstart programs are wonderful, most are only for 3-4 hrs two or three days a week. It is good for social and educational development. Also, preschools are inspected just like other businesses are. I believe that you and your son have seperation issues, that need to be addressed. You allow him to dictate to you where he will and will not be, this is not good. All children go thru a phase when they don't want to leave their parents, this is normal. This is especially true since he is an only child. What you need to do is approach this with love while being firm. Otherwise it will be that much more difficult when it is time for him to go to preschool. Good luck.
