26 yr old seeking to adopt a baby?

Anyone have any suggestions, We are not wealthy and cannot afford to pay an agency. However our greatest desire is to have a child to raise as our own. We cannot have children but could give a child a lot of love and a pretty good life.

Where should we start?

Answer:
There are basically two ways to adopt a child domestically (in the US): 1) go through an adoption agency or attorney, which is more or less the same procedure or 2) go through a governmental agency.

International adoption is usually more expensive but faster than domestic adoption.

Commonly it is cheaper to adopt through a governmental agency such as Department of Child and Family Services, or whatever it is called in your area. Some church-affiliated groups provide adoption services more cheaply than private agencies. I believe Catholic Charities limits adoption fees to 10% of your annual salary. This was two years ago in the Chicago area, you might find different info in your specific case.

The major difference is your location. Adoption is all governed by state law. Some states are more pro-adoption than others. In some states the legal proceedings are quicker, easier and therefore cheaper. I understand some of the cheaper/easier states for adoption are Illinois, Indiana, California, Arizona, Texas and Florida. Some of the most expensive and lengthy are New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Look to adopting through a governmental agency, it will almost certainly be cheaper.
No promises, but I have considered being a Sargent mother for someone if it was the mothers egg and fathers sperm implanted in my uterus. Why can't you have children? And where do you live?
If i was you & your husband I'd look in the classifieds in the newspaper! One that is from the city or there are sites on the internet u can look @ about adopting
check with children protection services they might be able to help you.
Many good wishes to you.

Foster to adopt - that way the state pays for everything during the adoption process (paperwork, etc.). Check with your local child protective service and they will set you up for an initial visit.

You don't have to have A LOT of money to raise a kid, although money is necessary. Love counts for a lot, so I wish you many blessings in finding your child.
Your best bet would probably be taking in foster kids. They need homes and you don't have to pay to have them.
