What is the fascination with adopting babies from another countries?

Whe have so many neglected and needy kids around us.. Why spend thousnds going to another county? WHY? With all that $$$$ you could probably adopt 3 n the US.

Answer:
I think when celebrities travel to other countries they are shocked at how bad conditions are they can't help but want to help in some way. I know we have a lot of children in our own country that need adopting but our system makes it very difficult. My sister was trying to adopt a little 2 year old boy who was living with them for a year and a half. This little boy had a mother who gave birth to six children in a matter of 8 years. She was doing drugs with all the pregnancies and the kids have cognative problems, physical problems and social problems. All the kids have been put into foster care with several different families so they don't get to spend time together as a family. The judge gave the mother several chances to go to rehab and straighten up but every time she left without finishing the program. Child protective agents came to my sisters house at least once a month to check on things and make sure my sister and her husband were going by the many rules and regulations. He was learning to live a good life with love, kindness, family, manners, bedtimes, real food on the table and health care. He was making great strides when the system moved him out because they said my sister and her family was getting too attached to the child. The system figured the mother would one day complete her rehab and he could go back to his mother. So this little boy went from home to home being shuffled throught the system with out anything consistent in his life. My sister and her family were allowed to visit him on occasion but the system is still holding on to him. That child has been going throught this for five years now and still has no place he can call home. It's a dirty shame. This is why people don't adopt in this country.
a fad.
it seems to be a fashion trend that Angelina started. What an awful trend! Sick if you asked me.
I have wondered that myself. I know all children should have a loving family, but charity begins at home. I totally agree.
I agree with you

maybe they want their family to be multicultural
Because the horrible lives of the children in other countries is all over tv and the news. If the news started covering stories about all the needy kids in the us instead of story after story about all the kids in africa who have aids or their parents died form aids it would be different.
It is much easier to go to another country and adopt. No background checks, no proving you would be a fit parent, no waiting period, etc. I too think it is a shame to adopt from another country when we have so many that need good homes right here, it's sad :-(
Its because it sooo hard to adopt in the US. There are soo many regulations. My in laws wanted to adopt after there last daughter was born they said that they were "too old" ( they had a 1 year old natural daughter). Some other friends wanted to adopt but were told there income wouldnt allow them to adopt ( he "only" makes $96,000 a year). So people go to other countries to get the child they yearn for.
I heard its harder to adopt American baby's and it takes so long so people go else where it's a faster process but I'm not for sure on that It's what i have heard
Giving and adopting to other countries spreads hope and goodnes throughout the world. I hope you understand this is neccessary to making the world a better place. The world is almost over populated, I assure that adopting foreign babies is the best thing to do if you have the money, care a lot about yourself and it, and also know about ecology in the future..
People (ex: Angelina, Madonna) think they're really helping by bringing some foreign, sickly child into OUR country in order to save them from their home country. Quite selfish actually, considering Angelina stated she was going to adopt from several countries so she could have "children from all colors of the rainbow." I say she start collecting starving children from all corners of the U.S. first.
Adoption in the US is very difficult. Peole get frustrated and would rather pay more for less difficulties.
STUPIDITY..they think they are doing such a good deed by "rescuing" these children... BUT they are too stupid to see that adopting ANY child is a rescue.
Celebrities who find themselves in the spotlight and expected to make something of that opportunity to contribute wisdom to the world, and who have no such wisdom to contribute, make gestures instead intended to show their compassion for the unfortunate in the world and to contribute "wisdom" by example - whether wisdom is in fact involved or not.
The chances of getting a "crack-baby" are less in other countries..I guess..
It is not a fascination as much as it is about availability. There are so many non US childern up for adoption the process is relatively short in relationship to the US system. Also it can be a bit cheaper, and unless your willing to adopt a special needs child from the US it is a very hard process. So good people go elseware to fill the parental need and desire. Note a child is a child no matter where it was born. US citizens would be able to provide much better quality of live for those kids. This is a good thing. Pray for them and thank them for the selflessness they have shown.
It's harder and more expensive here in the US to adopt actually.
I know everyone is ignoring te white and black kids here in our own backyards...rude and kind of stuck p I guess.
well.i dont think that it matters where the baby/babies come from... a helpless child in need is the same everywhere.and the kids here have a much better chance of survival than in other countries.plus im sure its not so easy to try and take your child back once youve given them up if your from africa or thailand.like it sometimes happens here.what the heck is the difference? a baby is a baby...we all live in the same world-america isnt "better" than anywhere else, just because we think we are...plus human service is rare...so stop putting people down and think of ways to help instead...
