How much is reasonable to spend on a Christmas stocking?

I know we all earn different salaries, but how much roughly will you be spending?

Answer:
I have 5 kids and I always get their stuffings at Dollar Tree or Dollar stores. Its just small things and half the time they dont "use" a lot of things. Now my older ones (just for show) get things like new pens for school or CD's. Small items for school or for backpacks. Nothing too expensive!
on the stocking itself or what you put in it?

on the stocking - buy a cheap (under $5) stocking and then use glue and glitter to *make* it special :) sure you can go out and buy one.but that takes all the fun and memories out of it. :)

on what to put in it - for kids: a pack of m&m's, a toothbrush and a few fun trinkets. nothing too wild. for adults: i'll get the same pack on m&m's and then a "cool" adult gift (jewelry for some, videogame, something like that)
Well, as its my sons first xmas, i will be getting him a personalised stoking from mamas and papas, it says *babys name* first christmas 2006. It costs around £30 i think, but it will be worth it for the memorys it will bring.

Edit: If you mean on presents, i have already spent around £550 on him and are looking to spend about another £100-£200 on him.
There are just to many great baby toys out there, especially for 10 month olds, that i just cant choose so have to buy him everything! But i am going to give it to a charity shop when he grows out of them as i am not going to spend all this money on toys that will only be played with for a year tops unless some other kids can benifit from them if they are in good nick.
we spend about $130.00 per child on "gifts" and then about $15.00 per child on "stocking stuffers".

i don't believe in to much spoiling! i have each child buy a toy for "toys for tots" in order to teach them about the gift of giving. each child spends roughly $25.00 on a toy for a tot.
The stocking I bought cost $3, and I put about $10-$15 worth of toys in it.
I have 3 kids, 2 sons and a step daughter, they are all getting similar things, i spent about $15 on each of them.
If it's for my two kids... between £10-15max filled with lots of little things.

If it was a Xmas stocking for the lady in my life, not a penny... would spend it on suspenders instead...

Happy days x
Depends on how big the stocking is!
Lots of candy, fruit, and this is where I stock my daughters "special" stuff like finger nail polish, perfumes, body sprays, ect. My boys, I usually use this to get them cologne, after shave, and maybe a new playstation game. Depending on your spending limits. It is better to put the smaller items in here than to wrap them. I have 6 kids..from 18yrs to 9 months, so each child is different.
only what you can afford it don't matter what other kids get ,as long as you make it fun and magical for your child.
