no it's not a myth.if your to close to the tv it could be your already having problems with your eye sight and that's why a lot of people sit close but it can make your eyes worse .You are stressing your eyes to see things close up and our eyes focus natrally but normally when things your use to being close to your eyes it will start making things difficult when further away.
itss bad i use to watch t.v really close and my mom would get so mad at me but i wouldn't listen.now i have to wear glasses.my eye sight is bad.
