Question for people with kids...?
Answer:
i am a mother of 3 i have a 4 and 2 year old who will be in a car seat until they are 5 or 6 depending on their weight and size.a child needs to remain in a car seat or booster until they can actually sit on the seat and the seat belt fits properly across the middle of the shoulder/chest...not across the throat or neck.the lap belt is low and snug across the thighs, not the stomach.your child be tall enough to sit against the vehicle back seat with hi/her legs bent w/o slouching.
I think mine was out of a car seat by 4, and on to a booster, but was tall for his age. Just make sure the belt goes across his chest, and not his neck.
laws depend by state, but here they have to be in at least a booster seat until they reach a certain weight and height.
the rule of safety that i heard was 8 or 80lbs Both of my boys (4 and 6) are still in booster seats. I would suggest getting a booster seat as the next step.
i think it is 40 lbs and over that it is safe when you feel okay with it do it just abide by laws i dont ever feel that they are safe in the care
He needs to at least be in a booster seat. The seat belt won't fit properly across his chest.
I waited for my children to get into kindergarten before I let them ride without a car seat, but to be honest I think they should still be in boosters.
you go by weight and hieght, after car seat you go to booster seat.many different 1s to choose from.good luk happy holidays
My kids were 3-4yrs when they went into booster seats. They were proud to be growing up and happy to keep the seat belt on properly for the privilege. You can get over the head restraints to fit to existing seat belts.um, a harness! But I never used them myself. Make sure the little one stays in the back seat (not in the middle) as it is alot safer if a crash was to happen.
Out of the carseat at 4.in a booster seat til 5 and then we had one of those seat belt adjusters til he was taller ( about 8 we took it off...it was more of a comfort thing for him so his neck wasn't getting irritated) Of course now some states have gone crazy with the age, height, weight requirements so check your state's laws.
booster seat. In canada legally they dont have to be after 40 pounds, but technically they like them to be 80 pounds. Im not sure of height...that plays a factor too. My nefew who is 6 is still in a booster seat.
you are supposed to have your child ride in a car seat or booster seat as long as they will fit..regardless of age. it all depends on size of the child.
i put mine in a booster seat with a back on it til he was like 5 or six even.. GOOD LUCK
Well i suggest you souled just get a
booster seat because a four year old
is not ready for a seat belt yet, it is safer for him if he is under 50 pounds.so your next
step is a booster seat.
I don't know where you live but here they have to 8 yrs. old or 80 lbs. before they can stop riding in the car seat/ booster seat. It's the law.
You need to have you child in a booster seat until the age of 12 or 100 pounds. You better check you state laws to find out for sure.
In my state the law says they must be 8 yrs or a certain height. But they are safest if you keep them in their car seat as long as it still fits them. Booster seats, now a days can go up pretty high in the weight dept.
Most states have a law now that children must be in a booster seat until 8 years old or 4'9". If your state does not have this law than you can just do it anyway. You can find a booster seat at your local Walmart.
The law says that a child has to be at least 8 years old to be without a booster seat, people. If the child is too big for a car seat the next step is the booster seat. Never is the child supposed to be in the front. Hope this helps.
There is a video I just saw on youtube about kids not in safety harnesses (a little boy died in a booster seat). I would keep him in it as long as possible.
In GA, where I live, kids have to be at least in a booster until they are 7. If your son is under 40 lbs keep him in the car seat. When he is 40 lbs move him to a booster. I would also recommend the booster with the seatbelt holder, not the tiny one in the seat.
As long as your kid hasn't outgrown the weight and height restrictions on the carseat keep using it if you feel safer. At 4 he should probably still be in a booster seat. Some booster seats go just under the bottom, but I have seen more elaborate ones that reming me of a carseat because they have a back and sides. Maybe that is what you need.
They should move from a car seat to a booster when they are over 40 lbs. Booster seats should be used until the child is 4' 9". This is a safety standard and has nothing to do with laws, age is not a factor.
I don't know where you live, but your son will still have to be in a booster at the age of four. If you keep quiet about it, you can continue to buckle him fully into the carseat and he'll never know the difference :)
In alot of states 4 is too young to be out of a car seat. Wisconsin law is 8 years old, 80lbs or 4'9".
3-5 has to be in a booster seat
Just saw this on TV this morning...4 feet 9 inches tall to use a regular seatbelt. Smaller than that and they can just slip right out. Of course, he might be big enough for a booster. I think my daughter was 5 but she is small for her age. Check the weight limits on the carseat and what weight limits are available in booster seats. They have backless booster seats if he ever gets embarrassed about using it (less obvious, at least through the window) but check those safety ratings! There is the saddest letter from a mother in our peds office who wishes her son had been in a booster. Please be safe!
