At what age do you think a child can bathe unsupervised?

My son is 7. I recently taught him how to turn the water on and off by himself, and how to direct the water to the shower as opposed to the tub. He is still workign on shampooing his hair, but he knows how to wash his body without my help. I ask every couple minutes - through the cracked door: "how ya doin in there?" and I let him know to "let me know if you need any help" and Im within 15 feet of the bathroom at all times. He still calls me to help rinse his hair sometimes, and he lets me know when he's done. I usually tell him to go ahead and turn off the water and get out - the first few times were supervised very closely and directly - after that a gentle reminder on how to turn off the water and to "step out carefully" is helpful. After he is in his pajammas, of coarse comes the praise as to what a big boy his is now, and how proud I am of him doing such a good job in the shower on his own. hope that helped.

We started at 5 with our daughter but I was and still am always close by within calling distance. They want independance but they can also fall or slip.
probably around 6 or 7. i would of course keep the door open a crack
Even an adult should not be left alone with a body of water. Remember one can really drown with a glass of water.

i would say 4 or 5 but stay in distance so you can hear what they are doing and make sure they dont slip or fall
around 5, but I always stayed very close by to make sure I could hear the whole time and would call out to ask if everything was ok.
Five or six should be fine.
But, I'd be hanging out as close to the bathroom door as possible. At least until I was convinced that my child was okay by themselves.

I think you should check on them but maybe eight or nine. You don't have to go in there just ask if they are okay.
I have a friend who does it as early as 2. But.I definitely would not recommend this. At 5 or 6 at least, when they understand the dangers. Even then, I would not totally leave or be on the other side of the house while they did.
Mom of 2 here - I think it totally depends on the child. Most 1st graders are able to take a bath on their own with little supervision. Once the child hits age 9 you might want to limit those 'pop in ' visits to make sure everything is clean.

I vote 7 or 8. It's probably important to teach privacy and such, but as a lifeguard instructor I know how dangerous the water can be and kids are apt to fool around and not be safe.
atleast 10 or 11 because children will just let the bathtub overflow with water.

My daughter is five, but she's been taking her baths unsupervised for a while now. She just sits in there and plays and plays and plays. Never once have I had any problems with her in the bath.the only thing that worries me is when she gets super quiet and I dont hear her voice or splashing water. Then I check on her, and she's fine.
