Tell all your friends and aquantinences your starting a home daycare business. Most parents I know would NOT leave their child with someone without references anyway. Word of mouth is your best bet. I always know someone in need a reliable sitter.
Make yourself some homemade business cards and pass them out to your friends and neighbors. Do you have a state license yet? Yes, you need one! Do you own all the proper equipement required for this venture? Have meals planned out? Educational toys? Is your home completely "baby and child proof?
What are your thoughts on disapline? Do you ever plan on taking the children on field trips? How do you handle a sick contagous child around the other children while waiting on the parent to pick up the sick child? Do you sterilize toys on a regular basis? How many weeks of vacation do you plan on taking so the parents can plan far in advance for temporary child care in your absence? Are you baby and child CPR certified? Do you charge a late fee for late child pick-up? Do you only except children with current immunizations?
If you have a state license you can be put on the State's list of certified daycare facilities. This is great advertisement. It shows at the very least you meet those qualifications.
Most of the home daycares I know of charge about $100 - $150 per week. Infants to one year a bit more. Some offer a sibling discount to some families.
lots of grocery stores have notice boards you can use, and sometimes in laundry mats you might check in childrens clothing stores too and maybe you could leave a notice at childrens doctors offices. I have no idea about costs these days.
Are you sure you want strangers calling you and coming to your home? How are you going to screen strangers, for purposes of babysitting. What price did you have in mind when you decided to babysit? Putting your name, address, etc. in public view can be VERY dangerous!
