Does anyone know of the qualifications needed to be a childminder?
Answer:
Firstly you need to contact your local services ie:social services or council to tell them that you are thinking of becoming a childminder. They will then point you in the right direction of where the next session of courses will be held. They are normally in the evening or a few hours through the day, sometimes held at local community centres. You will be sent a pack which you must fill in and return before starting this course. The course normally runs over a few weeks, which will inform you of child safety and child protection and mostly common sense that will be needed in looking after children.Once you have attended the course you will be allocated a date which normally takes a month for somebody to come to your home and interview you then.Any specific requirements that the inspector feels that you need to change in your house will be noted ie:Fencing off of open gardens or even having somewhere for the children to have a nap must be catered for.You will undergo a police check also so that they can attain that you dont have a criminal record held against you regarding any offences toward children.
If the inspector feels that everything meets their criteria for becoming a childminder you will receive the go ahead around a month later and you will be able to register.
You will get a grant to start you off so that you can purchase toys and safety equipment to make your home more child friendly and they will also set your local hourly rate that you can charge for your area. They will also tell you how many children you can look after and what ages of children too.Good luck!

Hope this link gives you some idea.
No formal qualifications are actually required, all you need to do is take a 6 week course, if you do the scheme run by social services ( where you are willing to childmind children that are under their care) you get it for free
No academic qualifications needed - but you have to apply via social services - there's some sort of course you need to complete, I think. Then they'll carry out all sorts of checks on you, your family and your home.
You don't need qualifications, but someone will come round to make sure that your home is suitable for use as a childminding premises, you should also get a criminal records bureau check, and even if not required a course in first aid would be a good thing to have.
