To those who are positive to group b strep?
Answer:
Not me but my best friend...
Her first child was VERY VERY sick at birth because back then her dr didn't check for GBS! It is a simple test just a quick swab at dr office usually around 34 weeks could save baby's life!
With her 2 &3rd babies she just automaticlly tok antibotics during delivery
Also she had C-sections with all 3 and it was still a problem, so not just a vaginal thing.
I had no symptoms during my pregnancy and no pain although I was more prone to yeast infections and that was no fun. I got antibiotics during labor but not the full amount before birth because I delivered way too fast. I didn't take notice to my discharge being any different and my son does not have GBS.
i got the antibiotics in labor and to my knowledge my kids dont have it i never had any symptoms because all it is really is bacteria in the vagina and the discharge never changed and i had no pain its not something i think you can feel its just there harmless to us but could hurt the baby during birth so you get iv antibiotics to pass to the baby its like 2 bags the only thing that hurt was intial burn of the antibiotics going into the blood stream
My sister and I both suffered from GBS. I think it runs in the family? Anyway, my sister's first child had major complications due to GBS, she was in the nic unit for almost two weeks. My sister received no antibiotics during that labor because back then they didn't test for it and she also delivered via c-section (scary). Looking back, the only thing she connects with the GBS is she would pop positive on the urinary tract infection strips, but she never had any other symptoms. She was being tested for the UTI's because her husband is an urologist and he decided to test her, he couldn't believe she was getting the tract infections without symptoms. Anyway, after her first born, she was tested every other pregnancy. She received either antibiotics leading up to labor or during labor, and had no more complications. As for myself, of course, I turned out to be GBS positive with my first child. I had no pain, and no unusual discharge. I received ampicillin during labor and was told that it would be ok as long as I had one bag of the ampicillin in me for at least four hours before delivery, so the medicine would have time to kill all the bacteria. Luckily, I was in labor for 8 hours so I was in the clear. I delivered vaginally and everything was fine. Now, I'm pregnant with my 2nd and I am a little worried that I may have a labor that is less than 4 hours so I am going to ask my doctor if there's any way they can give my antibiotics before labor. Hopefully they can. I'll take the antibiotics while in labor too, in fact I hope they offered it. If not, I'll be asking for it anyway. Knowing what my sister went through, I'll do anything to avoid complications.
Oh, for some reason with ampicillin I was told they would only give me one bag of it during labor vs if they had given me penicillin they would of given me two bags. Not sure why? Also, after delivery I think they give the baby some antibiotics as well.
