Are Maternity Belts Safe?

I'm in my third trimester and having severe back pain. Last time I saw my OBGYN, the midwife made the comment that maternity belts can help.

I bought one. But now my friend, a nurse, stated that they can reduce circulation and suggested that I throw it away...

Everything I've read indicates that they are suppose to help with circulation, not hinder circulation.

So are they safe or not?

Answer:
Yes they are 100% safe, thousands and thousands women a day wear these belts sometimes everyday even. The doctor would not give u the advice it it wasnt safe for your baby and your pregnancy. All these belts do is relieve the pain from the pressure and help lift the tummy.I would go with your doctors advice instead of your friends, shes a nurse..nurses dont know as much as md's.(my friend wore one for her entire pregnancy from a low sitting baby and her baby is perfect)..
YES, MY DR. HAD RECOMMENDED ONE FOR BOTH MY PREGNANCY'S TO HELP WITH PAIN, AND SUPPORT, AND CIRCULATION...AND IT DID HELP.

CONGRATULATIONS
yes they are safe. they wouldnt be made for "maternity" purpuses if they were not safe.
I used one, and I loved it. I had lower back problems before I got pregnant. The belt really helped. I have never heard anything about it causing circulation problems.
