I know this is probably a stupid question but...?

Does being lactose intolerant affect your breast milk? And does the milk affect you? I know this probably sounds like the dumbest question in the world but I figured I should probably still ask before I got pregnant since we're trying.

Answer:
It's not a stupid question! I had the same question because I am sadly lactose intolerant-

Breastfeeding doesn't change being lactose intolerant. If you are lactose intolerant before breastfeeding then you will be while you are breastfeeding. (Although sometimes with hormone changes, I have noticed that the severity of the lactose intolerance can change)

Babys are rarely lactose intolerant although some do form an allergy to cows milk in infancy. (Usually by about 3 years, that allergy will go away) If you are lactose intolerant and breastfeeding then there will be no affect on the milk the baby is recieving. (Just make sure you keep your calcium levels up since dairy is a main source of calcium!)

If you consume dairy even though you are lactose intolerant (Which I sometimes do) then watch for gas, fussiness, and irritability in your infant. If you notice these things, start eliminating cows milk from your diet to try and figure out if the infant is irritated by only cows milk, or all dairy products.

I hope this answered your question! Occasionally I will have dairy products and my daughter does fine unless I consume a large amount of cheese or milk. In this case, we both will end up having intestinal distress. Small amounts usually don't affect her even though they may affect me because she isn't lactose intolerant. If you have any more questions about this topic, feel free to email me!
im not sure about that and if it is a dumb question then i guess im dumb right with it lol ..if i were to guess id say no it will be fine to breastfeed
The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask. *and i'm talking about serious questions, not ones people ask for attention*
My sister is lactose intolerant and she had no issues with breast feeding. Lactose intolerance affects your ability to digest milk, not your ability to produce and it's presence in your body doesn't affect this unless it's in your digestive tract. Good Luck!
no, lactose intolerant refers to dairy or cow products
no, and no its not a stupid question. lactose is a sugar and you cannot tolerate it. When you nurse the baby, and she tolerates it then everything is fine, on the other hand, it may be hereditary. I highly doubt it though. dont over consume dairy products and keep an eye out for gas from the baby.
I guess before you have the baby, you might want to stock up on anti-diarrheal medications. How is your stool presently?
No to both questions. That wasn't a stupid question. Good luck to you!!
