Do you know any natural ways to induce labor? i'm 37 weeks and the doc said its safe to have the baby any time
Answer:
Castor oil is a natural laxative. If your cervix isn't already dilating on its own it probably will only give you stomach cramps and have you on the potty all day. There are no scientific studies that prove that Castor oil causes labor to start and when it does start labor it's because it causes dehydration. Dehydration causes irregular contractions and generally not the ones that make your cervix dilate. If you go to the hospital dehydrated with irregular contractions they'll put you on iv for a little while and release you. Walking can speed labor up but I don't think it will get things started. Sex can cause your cervix to soften but might not and the contractions caused by sex are also irregular. As for pineapple that is one I never heard of and I'm friends with a midwife and and an ob/gyn. Squatting can help dilate and efface your cervix if you do it enough times and hold the squat long enough and then push down. Best of luck.
Walking worked for me. Don't take the castor oil because it is only going to make you go to the bathroom all day long!
This might sound iky..but rub on your nipples.this produces the same chemical that that they give you when you go to be induced...my cousin did and she said she went into labor the same day:)
You can also try acupuncture, reflexology or massage. Eat spicy food and drink raspberry leaf tea. With my first pregnancy I started drinking raspberry leaf tea and four days later went for dinner at a mexican restaurant where my waters broke just after we paid the bill! This time I only have a week to go and have been drinking raspberry tea 3 times a day for two weeks but the baby still hasn't come. I am going to Mexican again tomorrow to try that! haha I had acupunture last week but he said it can only give it a push along if the baby is ready to come and usually you need 3 treatments before your due date, most women that come in are overdue. He also told me to try squatting. I don't know I think you just have to wait but it's worth a try.
accupuncture. it's used for alot of expecting mothers
I would think 37 weeks is too early still. You should let the baby come when he/she is ready. I have not heard of a doctor saying that it's ok to induce labor this early. I HAD to have a induction at 37 weeks and believe me I wish I could of went on my own and naturally...Not the same as your thinking but you get my point..
I know that this is probably going to disappoint you, but the most likely meaning of what your doctor said is this..MOST babies born at 37 weeks are healthy and survive.
However, you need to consider a few things before you start trying to give birth early. First of all, 40 weeks is not only the appropriate amount of time for your child to grow, but it is also the amount of time it takes for your body to prepare to give birth. Second, your due date may be off by as much as two weeks, which means you may only be 35 weeks pregnant, not 37. Third, inducing labor often makes the process more difficult, more painful, longer, and more destructive to the female body.
I know you're tired of being pregnant, please believe me. Tomorrow is my own due date, February 15, and I am exhausted and sore and so very ready for this baby to come. But there is a reason that women go into labor naturally, without home induction or petocin. It is because that is the BEST way for it to happen. Natural onset of labor is known to be less painful and shorter than induced labor.
It's only 3 more weeks, so do be patient. Use this time to finish cleaning, get the laundry caught up, do some last minute shopping, make and freeze dinners, go to lunch with some friends you may not see for a while after the baby comes, things like that.
If you insist on inducing labor yourself, the best known way to do so is consistent nipple stimulation. Stimulating the nipples for 1 hour at a time, 3 times a day, has been proven to start labor. However, because this method is so effective, there is a significant chance that it will cause labor to proceed too quickly for first time mothers. Most midwives recommend it only for second and subsequent babies.
Good Luck, and I do hope you decide to wait.
Please, it may be safe but let nature work its miricle in its own time. The baby may need that extra week or two to complete its development phyical or mentally. Think of having a smarter and healther child. Take extra care for yourself, walk and do the excerises to prepare for childbirth. Drink raspberry tea (it is an amazing help).
I gave birth to 4 healthy children the natural way with no pain meds. that was 4 with in 6 years. They had no allergies or behaver problems either.
I am 38 weeks pregnant and know exactly how you feel, however, when your baby is ready to come, he or she will come! At 37 weeks, the baby's lungs are still developing. While it may be very uncomfortable for us, this far along in pregnancy, it is so much healthier for the baby to come around, or as close to 40 weeks as possible.
Should the baby be ready to come, try these things, but I suggest not drinking the castor oil. That is NOT a natural way to bring on labour, and if your doctor found out, would be highly upset with you.
1. Sex; it softens your cervix.
2. Orgasams; makes your uterus contract.
3. Walking; (this never worked for me, but was told by my doctor it helps).
4. Nipple Stimulation; releases some chemical to start making your uterus contract.
5. A warm bath.
The above are very natural ways to make your labour come on.
However, if the baby just isn't ready, none of those methods are going to work.
And, for those of you that will try castor oil anyway, if your baby isn't ready to come, be prepared to sit by a toilet all day :)
GOOD LUCK!!
I'll be 39 weeks pregnant on Friday so I totally feel your pain. My Dr. told me to have sex to help induce labor. I have also been told that nipple stimulation works. Just today I heard that having someone rub your ankles and your feet will help bring on labor, as well as prenatal massage. I'll be trying them all within the next few days so keep your fingers crossed for us both.
Good Luck and Congratulations:)
