When you take a pregnancy test at a clinic (a urine test) and they give you the results?

by how many weeks you are pregnant, are the weeks counted from the first day of your last period, like at a OBGYN or is it from conception?

Answer:
They usually give you an estimate by counting from the first day of your last period but an ultrasound done later on will be more accurate and give you a better idea of how far along you are.
It's actually from conception. I get confused about that every pregnancy. Seems like we get cheated out of two weeks ;)
you start counting the first day of your last period
First day of last period.
from conception or implantion, there only a few days apart so it's not big deal
my doctor counts my pregnancy(10Weeks and 4 days) by the day of my last period but he is old so he may just be a weirdo, lol.
they usually date it from the date of ur last period, but if u know the exact date u conceived, they go by that...
From conception
they start counting by the first day of your last period if they are regular, if not then they do a ultrasound to see how far along you are.
it is definitely from the first day of your last period, if you have regular periods. if not, they will do an ultrasound to see how far along you are. you are really only pregnant for about 38 weeks!

here is a site that explains things a little -

If you know the conception date, it's from then. Usually they count from when you first day of your last period. You'll know more as your baby grows and they are able to measure the fetus and your belly.

Example: I went from a December 30 due date to January 17 due date.
First day of your last period.
from what my friends OBGYN they start considering you pregnant when your body is preparing for pregnancy not at the point of conception(but like two weeks before that) doesn't make sense to me.
a urine test won't give you those details, now a blood test would and it usually marks your pregnancy since the day of your last period. Now another way of knowing is by the Naegler rule (can't remember how u spell it)...you check in the date of your last menstrual period and it will tell u exactly how far along you are.
it is from the first day of your last period. The test will usually come out positive after 4 to 5 weeks of pregnancy (which is one missed period)
They count from the first day of your last period. The formula they use is to count back 3 months and add 1 week that is suppose to be you due date. There is a website www.americanbaby.com they have a due date calculator and pregnancy calendar.
