doesnt sound normal but than again i'm not a doctor. Get to that appointment, the doctor is the best person to help you. GOOD LUCK!!
This is fairly common, especially for women who have had a few babies, or a big baby, or twins.
The length of an index finger isn't so bad, really. Some women will have the cervix descend all the way down to the vaginal opening -- a "prolapse."
I wouldn't call it "normal" though, because it can cause some problems, such as sexual discomfort, or leakage of urine when you laugh or cough.
The first thing to do is Kegel exercises. This was probably taught to you during pregnancy. Google "kegels" for a refresher course.
Mention it at your next appointment. The doctor can examine you and determine whether it is in the normal range or not.
