I am about 23 weeks pregnant. I havent been to the doctor but i am going tomorrow.?
Answer:
Well first off, congrats on your pregnancy!
You sure can bring a friend along with you.
What to expect:
They may do a pap smear and you can ask your friend to step out for the 30 seconds it takes to do this. (very quick- don't worry)
They will also get your weight, and height and ask you some questions about your medical history. Do NOT feel intimidated.
They may also draw some blood to check your levels and check for any possible recent infections.
They will ask you to pee in a cup, which they will dip a tiny little test strip in to test the sugar and protein levels. They will do this at every check up. Sometimes pregnancy can cause a host of annoying but dangerous changes to our bodies, so they will keep a close eye to make sure you don't develop pregnancy diabetes and things like that. Again- don't feel intimidated.
Because you are past your 20 week mark, they will likely schedule an ultrasound (or perform one if they can at the time) asap.
Most women have a "full anatomy scan" at 18-20 weeks to check the growth of the baby and make sure everything is developing as it should. You will also likely be able to learn the sex of your baby at this time. (Unless the little stinker has their legs shut!)
Again, congrats on your pregnancy, relax and I hope all goes well!
Nothing to be nervous about. The doctor will just give you an ultrasound and check on your baby but why did you wait so long? Yeah someone can go in the room with you.
glad you are getting the care now atleast,, yes your friend can go with you.
how come you waited so long to go to the dr? you should have had a dr. visit about 13 weeks ago! you also should have had an ultrasound at 18 weeks.
At your first pre-natal appointment, they will go over with you the things you should be doing and should not be doing...and your history. they will listen to the baby's heart beat adn probably set you up with an ultrasound appointment.
Not sure why you waited so long. You should be able to bring someone in with you. They will probably want to do a pelvic exam, ask lots of questions and give you tons of information. They will probably want to schedule labs and an ultrasound too.
Good luck
I would expect lots of scheduling! Although you waited so long, everything is probably fine. I wouldn't recommend waiting so long with any future pregnancies nor to anyone else. There's tests that are done in the early parts of the pregnancy that help detect possible problems. Your probably going to be scheduled for these tests if not have some of them done tomorrow at your appointment. Expect to return to the doctor very soon!
yes, its fine to bring company
u will do a pee test
and then the doctor will examine u
relax u will be ok
You should have gone earlier but you can't change that now. Expect a full physical with a pelvic. The doctor will probably schedule a sonogram. Some offices do them on cite so you might get to see a picture of that baby tomorrow although don't count on it. The doctor will ask alot of questions about how you are felling. Your doctor might talk to you about more tests to check the baby's development. Make sure to bring a paper and pen as this can get overwhelming. You might also want to bring in a list of questions or concerns with you. Your boyfriend can come in for the talking part but he will be asked to leave for the actual exam. Let the person at the reception counter know that you want him in when you talk to the doctor. They will accommodate that.
Good for you for going now. You can definitely take someone with you. They'll listen for a heartbeat with what looks like a stethescope with a microphone on it. They MIGHT do an ultrasound to check to see how the baby is growing, etc. They might also do some blood work and/or a gestational diabetes test (you drink some sweet pop-like drink and check your blood afterwards). They'll probably also have you pee in a cup.
Try not to let any of this stuff stress you out...I used to actually look forward to these appointments so I could hear the baby's heartbeat or see what the baby looked like. Good luck!
Expect the doctor to be a little surprised you've waited so long. Also you may find that your timing may not be the same as the doctors. They will let you take your friend in with you, and they will want to set you up with the tests and scans that you have missed so far.
yes she can, you will get blood work should get an ultrasound and a papsmere
Your first doctors appointment will probably include the following, especially since you waited so long to go.
*Check your weight
*Get a detailed medical history
*Blood Pressure
*Pelvic Exam and Pap Smear
*Check for baby's heart beat
*Urine sample
*Blood work, either done in the office or they will send you to a lab. The initial blood work will be quite extensive, about 5-6 tubes of blood. They will check for all STD's, including HIV, Hepatitis, etc.
*They may even send you for an ultrasound, since you are so far along, to make sure the baby is growing at the normal rate, especially since if you would have been going regularly they probably would have already sent you for one by now. Good news they can tell you the sex of the baby at this stage of pregnancy.
*They will probably ask about the baby's movement.
I can't imagine it not being OK for you to bring your friend with you to your appointment. Most doctors prefer you to have someone there, or for you to have a good support system, especially if the father will not be present. Good Luck and try not to worry. Congratulations:)
They are going to do a pregnancy test and an ultrasound. They are going to talk to you about prenatal care and give you some info on when you need to be coming in. They will want to set up insurance info or plans to pay. They will sit down with you for a Q&A.
This is the time that you want to educate yourself about your pregnancy, your body, labor options, and questions that you will want to ask your doctor. You may decide after your own research that your doctor doesn't have the same ideas about the kind of birth experience you want. You might decide you want to have a midwife instead with a low-intervention philosophy. Regardless, get educated so that you can choose a practiconer (might be the one you are already with) who is your best advocate for your ideals.

don't be scared. they might do a glucose test, take down family history, draw blood for std testing. all that good stuff that should have been done around 12 weeks. but sometimes life doesn't work out and we can't see a doctor till later, usually due to insurance getting settled. and yes you will more likely know the sex of your baby when they do the u/s. it is now the perfect time for that to happen.
and alot of doctors are fine with friends accompanying the pregnant lady. support is always a good thing.
