Reglan for morning sickness..?

I am 8 1/2 weeks pregnant and I have tried phengren and zofran and now they are trying reglan. I am having severe "morning" sickness and haven't been able to keep anything down since before the positive lines came up on the test. Has anyone ever taken reglan?..what was your experience how? how often did you have to take it...daily?? thanks for the comments!

Answer:
good luck.
i have hyperemesis gravidarum. the docs have tried every prescription med and non presecription(like benadryl) i've tried herbs, including pot, nothing has helped. very little stays down.
I have a PICC line in and do IV hydration twice a day, i eat what i want when i want and hope a little stays down.
I'm about 26 wks with twins and am now under my prepregnancy weight.
listen to mystic, the reglan really isn't a great drug.
Reglan is used to increase lactation, so you will have that problem. Also reglan can cause severe depression.

"Reglan has often been used in the U.S.. One major side-effect of Reglan is severe depression; it is contraindicated in moms with a history of depression, and all moms who take this should keep an eye out for signs of depression. One of my sources advises all adoptive mothers to stay away from Reglan, since it has caused serious depression/anxiety in moms regardless of previous history. This depression side effect usually develops over 3-4 weeks, and goes away if mom discontinues the Reglan. Other side effects include diarrhea, sedation, gastric upset, nausea, seizures and extrapyramidal effects (twitching, etc.) "

Can I suggest something a little unorthodox that has waay less side effects?

Hope you find something that works and has no side effects.
I have never used Reglan for morning sickness but I did use it for about 3 days to try to help increase breastmilk production. It didn't help me produce any more milk BUT it did make me SOOOO sleepy that I could hardly stay awake and was too sleepy to even drive which is why I had to stop taking it. But maybe I was on a higher dose than you might be taking? I've also heard that it can make some women become depressed but you know how prescription drugs go..they affect different people in different ways. Good luck with your pregnancy and I hope the Reglan helps with the morning sickness.
I am pregnant with twins, 16 weeks along and sick day and night. So sick I was in the hospital for 4 days and have had to have constant care since then. I also have 3 other boys. Now with them, I didn't have to use anything, I just ate a few crackers while resting, didn't move quickly and it went away after the 4th month. Now this time, it isn't going away, the joy of twins I guess, and they have me using reglan and phenegran. I take the reglan about 10 minutes before I want to eat, it only works on me for about 30 minutes to an hour. I typically use it throughout mid day when I seem to not quite be as bad, I then supplement the phenegran in the morning and evening. Of course I have help so when the phenegran knocks me out, someone is there to take care of the boys. Reglan is normally used for heartburn type indegestion, but has been found to help nausea and be safe for pregnant women. If I were you, I would take one with a cracker the moment you wake up, don't even get out of bed, have it right beside your bed. Make sure you have a cracker ther as well, and drink as much fluid, water and such, as you can with it, on an empty stomach, it can make you even sicker. That way you can at least get some breakfast in you. Good luck and don't worry it will go away.
I took Reglan to increase milk production for breast feeding and my twins take it for reflux. I didn't know it worked for this use too. It made me feel horrible so I stopped taking it right away. It was like drinking 100 cups of coffee, not worth it for me.
I'm 9 1/2 weeks and am taking reglan for morning sickness. I still feel nauseous now and then but at least now I can keep my food down. I'm definitely not depressed from it, if anything I was depressed before I took it because I was feeling so sick and wasnt able to eat a thing without throwing it up. Its helped me a lot so far, I'm not taking it past the first trimester and am prescribed to take 10mg 4 times a day. Good luck and I really hope you feel better!
Hi, I had severe morning sickness with my first pregnancy. I was put on diclectin. I do not know if it is available in the US. It is here in Canada. It works awesome!!! It took a couple days before it was under control but once I got everything regulated it was great. I hope this helps.
I took reglan 4 times a day, 30 minutes before each meal. Honestly it didnt help me either. I tried Phenergan first also, then ZOfran and I got prescribed Reglan and Pepcid together. I just think if your going to get that sick, that nothing can really stop it. I was sick from 6 weeks to 20 weeks with All day sickness, and now Im 32 weeks and it has come back. Not as bad and not all day, but I get sick at least 2 times a day and occasionally it will last most of the day.So I am trying the Reglan again to see if it works this time since my sickness is less severe. I hope you can find somehting that will work for you.
