I am 36 weeks pregnant- what is this?? (not a labor question)?

The right side of my body is cold from the middle of my back to my knee. It feels like my bones are ice packs. I'm assuming I have a pinched nerve or bad circulation, but am curious if anyone else had this while pregnant. If so, what did you do to alleviate it?

Answer:
My sis-in-law had the same problem in one leg from the hip to the knee, it had to do with a pinched nerve. For her there was no relief until after giving birth. Talk to your doctor - (to be sure that's what it is). I had a friend that gave birth last month that was always having accupuncture. I've never had it done though - just a thought.
I have been pregnant 3 times and never had anything like this. I would check webmd.com. Sorry I can't help.
Its your sciattica (sp?) nerve. Its complaining because your baby is sitting on a nerver or you have done something to put it out of whack!

Its ok, what you want to do is buy a therma-fore heating pad, the ones that say "moist heat". Put this behind your back and sit on it 30 min a day or until the nerve feels better. You may also want to elevate one foot on the bottom of the shopping cart if you are standing for longer than 15 min.

In bed, you can put pillows under your knees and your calfs. When you get out of bed, Lay on your side bring your knees up so they are bent then slide them off the bed and sit up. Don't hold your breath and push with your elbow. This will cause it to get worse!

You can read more about this nerve at www.webmd.com

I'm sorry you have this, I did too and its a pain!

Good Luck!
As with any unusual symptom, especially something this strange, during pregnancy, it is vitally important that you consult your doctor as soon as possible. People of the area that you are feeling numbness and coldness, something could be seriously affecting your uterus, birth canal, or unborn child. If you do not have an emergency number for your obstetrician's office, please call their main office number to see if one is offered. You should be able to get ahold of an answering service, tell them your problem, leave your name and phone number, and have a doctor or nurse call you back within the hour. If you cannot get ahold of anyone, do go to the emergency room.

At this stage of your pregnancy, after passing most of the milestones and being almost to the finish line of delivering a healthy baby, you need to be ever vigilant. It could be nothing, or it could be something serious. Please call.
I have this if I stand for more than a few minutes, on my left leg from the hip to the knee - this is my fifth baby and I've had this with all of my pregnancies. I'm 37 weeks.
