Early Labor Any Advice?

I'm 39 weeks pregnant exactly today. All of yesterday I felt weird just strange had contractions then they just got stronger starting at my back and just this increase of pressure and pain not unbearable but I have a pretty high pain tolerance but the added fact that its so much in my back makes it worse. I tried moving drinking water doing kick counts the bath nothing worked walking or moving made it worse. Finally called the hospital and the lady said no no I have no idea what Im talking about that women cant talk through contractions ( which is bulls hit ). I took another bath then decided to offically count them for almost 2 hours contractions every 4 minutes on the exact dot some at 2 minutes finally call back and go in my son doesnt like the monitors they hookup they examined me Im still 1 cm 55% effaced went home. Couldnt sleep today I lost my plug and it still hurts so bad but Im scared to go in and get sent home again I dont know what to do

Answer:
I was told to come in when my contractions were 3-5 minutes apart but that happened for me only one hour after my water broke.

But everyone is different when I was born my mums water broke she went to the hospital and they told her to go home..I popped out 3 days later!

Trust your own instincts and listen to your body signals.
sounds to me like you are in labor and your drs are not very smart or helpful. If you are contracting every 4 minutes for 2 hours, the time is near. My OB told me to come in when mine were 5 mins apart for 2 hours.
I have very high pain tolerance too. When I went in to be induced i didn't even know i was in labor until they hooked me up to the monitors. After being there for about 8-10 hours, I dilated about 8 cm in about 2 hours. i was screaming my head off for the last 3 hours and the nurse said i was being a wussy and didn't even check me. I lost my mind and decided to go home. I would have given birth in a van in traffic had my water not broken at that moment. She is right, you will be in too much pain to talk but that might not come until nearing the end. Dont worry too much though as i still had about 4 hours notice (first child). You probably are in labor. The fact that you are seeking medical advice on YA is a sign that you are losing your mind.a sure sign of labor! good luck
Well congratulations for being in labor! when you can't handle them any more and need pain meds that's when you go in. If you plan on having a pain med free labor that gets harder to judge, but trust your body... you'll know when it's time!
You know your own body. Will your doctor's office take calls on the weekend? Call him/her. Try resting on the couch or bed if you can stand it. If not don't be afraid to go to the hospital. If you stay at home go back in the shower. It felt great in the last days for me. If someone can let them trace their fingers on your back not actually scratching just tickling your back or belly. That felt so good to me. Good Luck you are in the home stretch.
Don't be intimidated by the people in the hospital. And the lady who said that women can't talk through contractions is completely wrong. And there's no standard for labor. I also have a high pain tolerance and was even talking with my office during labor. The nurses in the hospital couldn't believe I waited until I was dilated 7 cm before coming in. But I waited because I was told to wait until the contractions were regular. Well guess what, they were never regular, and finally I said forget this, I'm going to the hospital now whether they think I'm ready or not. Well, it turns out I was ready after all.

Trust your instincts.
Unless your contraction pattern is a lot different, they will probably send you home again.
There's no point in being in the hospital until you are actually in real labor. You could be there for days.
You may be in very early labor, but maybe not. At 1 cm, it is too early to tell.
It could be prodromal labor, which can go on for days; or false labor, which could stop and then start up again in a few days or weeks.
One thing they might do for you is to give you something to help you sleep, if you were up all night.
Call your doctor or midwife, or whatever # they told you to call.
Don't just go to the hospital without calling; they will almost certainly send you home again.
Nobody is trying to be mean to you; they've just seen enough to know that this is not really labor.
You are getting ready to go into labor. The contractions you're having may not be dilating your cervix, but they won't until your cervix is completely effaced (thinned). That's what they're doing. When your contractions are 4-5 minutes apart, get stronger without letting up and get closer for 1 hour, then you go to the hospital. They must be in a regular pattern to be called labor contractions. OR, if your water breaks, go immediately to the hospital. Now, when the nurse told you you couldn't talk through the contractions, he/she was right. TRUE labor contractions are nothing like these little prodromal (early) contractions. Active labor contractions take your breath away and you CAN'T talk. Don't be afraid to return to the hospital, many women do this, especially when it's her first. You don't know what to expect.
As far as your son not liking the monitors, the baby does not know they exist. He cannot hear them because they are just microphones that record his heartbeat. The baby will respond to any touch on your belly but will settle down.
Please, please remember that the labor nurse is your best buddy while you're in labor. She is there to make sure you and your baby stay healthy so, be kind and accept her recommendations.
OMG They actually told you women can't talk through contractions? Wowie... You and I and a whole lot of other women are very talented then! Sure generally it's usually only to say things like OW or "Oh my god I'm gonna kill you when this is over(perhaps to a spouse)" I know the last time I was in labor I kept myself calm and in check by doing the lamest sounding thing in the world, I told my husband I loved him during every contraction (I know, pretty lame osunding, but hey it worked, I stayed calm and was able to manage my pain much better than the previous times, so I will probablely do it again this time, I highly recomend it, along with hand squeezing(but not vicious hand squezzing)I did not, by the way, have an epidural on any of them) But the point is I TALK during contractions... how do contractions affect your vocal chords? They don't. I think if I were you I would goto the hospital, and if they say they are sending you home, tell them you'll just go sit in the waiting room so that when you give birth in a few minutes the mess is theirs to clean up and not in your car. I'm serious. Anyways, good luck.
