How far along should you be before buying maternity clothes?
Answer:
Go shopping when your clothes are starting to get tight on you (but before they get uncomfortable, so you have some time to choose what you like...). Some maternity stores actually provide a "pregnant pillow" to put under the maternity clothes when trying them on, so you can get an idea of how the clothes will look on you in a few months :)
I really recommend getting elastic waist pants (not the pants with the large belly spot) because you can wear them even when you are not pregnant. Also if you plan on beastfeeding, make sure to buy maternity shirts that will accomodate that (low cut or pull to the side easily)
you should buy maternity clothes when your regular clothes are uncomfortable to wear any more. Especially pants. to bind yourself up for fashion will be miserable on you and the baby.
i would say anytime before
When you start growing out of your regular clothes. And only buy a few at a time, you'll be surprized at how much you grow all over!
As soon as you clothes beome uncomfortasble, I love Old Navy maternity wear because thay have different size panels on there pants so the first level is like regular jeans with a stretch waist, i wore them for a few weeks after I had the baby just because they were so comfy.
When your regular clothes start getting too tight.Tight clothes can have harmful effects on a growing fetus.
buy maternity clothes once all of your clothes no longer fit. it just depends on the size of your regulr clothes.
You really could wait until your 6 months along or so...depends on when you start to show. Before that, you could just wear clothes that were loose on you. Comfortable clothes. The nice thing about buying clothes that are two sizes or so bigger than the norm for you is - once you have your baby, it will take some time to get back to your pre-pregnancy weight, and if you've bought non-maternity clothes, just bigger clothes, you will have something to wear without having to (once again) buy more clothes.
I start getting my maternity clothes when my regular clothes didnt fit anymore.
3 or 4 months
You should wait till you can't fit comfortably in your own close and even still sometimes you can just buy your clothes a bigger size they can be less expensive.
When you can no longer wear your clothes comfortably. There really isn't a time line. it just depends on your comfort.
Whenever you're regular clothes just aren't comfortable whatsoever. I started buying a lot of pregnancy clothes a couple of weeks ago, and I am 31-weeks pregnant. It all depends on how quickly you get the belly. You can go and get the belly band, but that's only comfortable for so long. It lasted a month for me, and I couldn't take it anymore. Target is now my best friend...lol. Have fun...pregnancy clothes are very overpriced.
You do not need to start buynig maternity wear until regular clothing stops fitting or gets uncomfortable. When you do start buying look for basic peices that mix and match and can be dressed up with accessories you already have. If you can not afford to buy alot of maternity wear it can be really horrible having to wear the same stuff over and over. Also consider what you will need to wear after the birth for breastfeeding and make sure you are fitted for a good maternity bra.
when you cant fit into your old clothes any more. But dont go crazy and buy tons of clothes all at once because you will grow and grow and grow and may only ever get into those once or twice. Expecially after you hit about 6 months. Good luck!
Unfortunately, there is no easy answer on this one. If you buy clothes once your regular clothes start getting uncomfortable, you may end up looking a bit weird as most maternity clothing isn't really designed for the first few months of pregnancy. I would advise you to maybe buy a pair of pants or two that are a size or two bigger then you normally wear at first. These are great for the first few weeks or months after you have your baby since most people don't get back into their pre-pregnancy clothing right away. There are also a great pair of pants on MaternityMall.com that you literally can wear your entire pregnancy as they have an adjustable waistband.
See if any family members or friends would be willing to loan you their old maternity clothes to save a buck or two. Or check out resale or thrift stores for items. You can go broke buying all sorts of different clothes that you'll only wear for a couple of months anyway.
Good luck!
It's up to you. But I wouldn't be waiting too long either. That's not good for you or the baby to be wearing tight jeans just because you can fit them still. It's still not good to slide them under your tummy. They have a lot of cute maternity pants and jeans.I bought mine at Jc Penney and at walmart. I didn't spend a lot of money on those clothes because it was only for a limited time and what you're really spening your money on is the elastic. And I didn't go out too much during my pregnancy because I was sick. Or what I did was just wear maternity pants but I wore a lot of sweat suits and plus size tops. But really when it starts to get uncomfortable and when you can't button up your pants anymore.
about 4 months
Given how lousy maternity clothes are -- there're loads of overpriced, poorly-made artificial fibre stuff out there -- I'd say as soon as you feel like going shopping for them. You'll have a lot more time to comparison shop and look for sales if you start early. 2nd-hand stores are great for them, but it's not like you can just wander into the first one and get a complete wardrobe.
