Can i color my hair? I am 8 months pregnant.?
Answer:
Ive had three children and i colored my hair during those pregnancies. It is ok to do. You will always hear No, don't do it. That is only because there have been NO studies on hair coloring during pregnancy. In order for it to have a big effect on the baby, the dye would have to get into your bloodstream, which wont happen unless you have a open cut on your head. Your dying your hair, not your uterus. The only thing that may bother you are the fumes from the dye so make sure your in a well ventilated room or at least have a fan going or a window open. Good Luck.
no chemicals are really bab for the baby wait another 2 months
yes its only in first 12 weeks they advise you not to. I used to work in a hair salon btw.
Don't do it!
You know they do have hair dye that you can use while pregnant!! It just cost a little more!
no - you can wait another month or two to worry about how you look
You can color your hair, try ti use a semi permanent, not as much fumes in them, but if you are 8 months, why not wait another month?
There are many opinions about whether you can color your hair while you are pregnant. Unfortunately, there are very few scientific studies on the effects of hair dye used during pregnancy. In some animal studies doses 100 times the amount of hair dye used in normal application showed no significant change in fetal development.
There are high levels of various chemicals in hair color. Low levels of these can sometimes be absorbed through the skin after being applied, and the dye is known to be secreted in urine. The larger danger in hair coloring lay in the fumes, which can be inhaled in greater amounts than will absorb into the skin. Perhaps the greatest risk of the fumes is that they make you nauseous rather than be dangerous for the baby.
There are certain precautions you should take when coloring your hair while pregnant. As always, you should first consult your physician for any recommendations. Second, make sure that you have your hair colored in a well-ventilated area. This will prevent the fumes from making you nauseous. Always wear protective gloves if you are coloring your own hair, as this will prevent the dye from being absorbed into your body through your hands. Rinsing your scalp with cold water can also slow or reduce absorbtion.
There are many "off-scalp" coloring methods, such as foiling and tipping that can be used. These methods, of course, do not reduce the amount of fumes that you will breathe in. If you are still concerned, you should ask your physician about these methods.
It's recommended my doctor's as well as midwives that you wait until the delivery. There hasn't been enough research done to say for sure if the chemicals from the dye cause birth defects but there haven't been any that say it doesn't. So really, it's a personal choice.
NO! if you do you could risk losing your hair and going bald!
Yes and No... It really isn't safe if you go lighter - no peroxide or bleaching - but I've heard it is safe to highlight darker - it sounds stupid but can look really pretty...
use an egg dye
I posted this once before. I asked my doc this question. She said that there is a checmical in hair dye that could damage a growing fetus (especially early on in your pregnancy before the placenta is fully developed - it acts as a filter - before week 14) But the amount that is in hair dye is so small it would take you consuming (Yes eating) the hair dye until it killed you for there to be enough to pass through the placenta to hurt the baby. Dying your hair a couple times while pregnant wont do any harm.
BTW though, the high amounts of estrogen plays tricks on how your hair will handle the dye. This is more due to the increase in oil production that has now coated the shafts, think it says don't wash your hair before but I'd recommend it to help strip some of that oil off. Else your dye job might end up looking splochy!
they say its fine after the first trimester and if your in a well vented room so your not breathing in just fumes
go ahead have fun i died my hair yesterday blonde
what has colouring got to do with pregnancy? but ur going to b a mom so it is better that u do not do so. what's wrong with ur original colour
Yeah its ok for you to color your haie..usually in the first trimester they want u to be cautious of what you put into your body (the chemicals of hair color get into your blood stream) they leave your blood stream very very quickly though...as long as u are in a well ventilated area such as outside or in front of a fan u will be ok. Try using herbal essence hair color,,its amonia free and has no harsh odor (it has a pleasant smell). Good luck!
this is the best way to look at it; what ever you do to your self (ie: smoke, drink) you do to your baby. if you were to use an chemical agent on your body, parts of that chemical will be introduced into your body and your babies as well. please think about your babies health and future, wait 2 more months to dye your hair.
i would ask you doctor first! mine let me. he said it's the smell that is bad. he had me sit outside & have some one else do it for me. he also had me wear a mask so i didn't breath to much fumes. i would ask him what kind to use b/c i can't remeber the brand. hope you have a nice day. :)
