My friend is 6 mths pregnant...but absolutely huge! Anyone been like this before?
Answer:
Twins will show up on an ultrasound long before six months gestation. Some people are small for awhile then really pop all of a sudden, that's common especially with the first baby. Also she could have excessive amniotic fluid, fetal anomolies, transverse lie or a really large baby, many reasons. But these are all things the doctor will be able to discern with an exam, measuring and ultrasounds.
The ultrasound would generally be able to tell if there was more than one baby in there, as would her doctor by doing a fetal heartbeat check (doc would hear 2 heartbeats!). It is still possible that she is carrying twins (medicine is not perfect), however it is improbable.
Anyone who'e been pregnant can tell you that at one point or another, their bellies just popped. It happened over night with me.
It generally just means she is carrying the baby very "out there" as opposed to the baby being deep and back. My kid was pressed up against my spine for months so I didn't look pregnant for a long time. Everyone is different and unless her doctor is concerned for health reasons, probably nothing to worry about.
this can happen sometimes because there is to much amniotic fluid, but the doctor would be measuring you each week if they were worried about this, sometimes it is just the way the baby is laying and lack stomach muscles,no in this day of ultra souns twins do not go unnoticed
it could be a multiple birth and the doc just can't find the other baby/babies. Another possiblity is shes over-eating. A lot of women see pregnancy as a way to eat whatever they want. She should only be gaining a few pounds a month by one baby. Anymore is the mom over-doing it. I'm not saying this is why, or that shes doing it on purpose, just a possiblity. She should go to the docs and have a check explaining this situation. They would know better than anyone here.
Depend on doctor's advice.
When having my first child by 6 1/2 mths I was massive. I looked huge and felt huge however it also didn't help having every second person tell me " Wow gee your big ". I had a fairly normal pregnancy and gave birth to a 8pd 10 1/2 oz healthy boy.
