I just had my second trimester ultrasound yesterday at 24 weeks. My baby was diagnosed with SUA or 2 vessel cord. He was sitting upsidedown and very low so I have to back for another ultrasound because they could not get a clear shot of his face or brain. My doctor said that the most common birth defect associated with SUA was with the kidneys. But he said they were able to see both on the ultrasound so he wasn't worrried about that. He basically brushed it off after that and let me think that was the only problem that could be associated with SUA. I have been researching it and am very nervous now. It only occurs in about 1% of singletons and 5% of multiples. There are many abnormalities associated with SUA and I again I am very nervous now. Have any of you experienced this with your pregnancies and how did they turn out? I don't think I could read anything much worse than what I have already read online. Any comment is appreciated. Thanks.

My daughter was diagnosed with the same thing. We saw a specialist and he said the worst thing we did was research on the iternet. He said 9 out of 10 babies with this have no issues what so ever.
Some babies have trouble gaining weight while in the womb. We had to have ultrasounds more often than a normal pregnancy. We had a heart ultrasound while she was in-utero and We had a kidney ultrasound done when she was born.
My daughter is now 21 months and she is very healthy and very happy. No issues what so ever.
I wish you luck I know it is very stressful.
There have been a few moms in one group I belong to with this problem and all their babies were just fine.
If you want you may join this group and ask, there are several midwives and some nurses as well. However do not join this group if you can not be respectful of other people's decisions such as homebirthing.
