1 year planning time until conception...what should I do?
Answer:
I'm reminded of what my wife told me when she talked about starting a family. I wasn't at all sure I'd be good enough to make it as a father. She said the fact that I was taking it seriously meant that I'd make a fine dad.
And so it is with you. I think you're doing all you can do, and you should pat yourself on the back and arrange for the material supplies that you'll need. Best wishes.
eat well, take vitamins, get educated, get prepared (mentally)
Enjoy the peace and quiet :)
It's great that you are putting so much preparation into this! Definitely take folic acid, eat properly, limit alcohol consumption (cut it out entirely when you begin trying), and get plenty of exercise. Try to be at your ideal weight going into your pregnancy and also try to be on a consistent exercise regimen, which you can continue (in moderation) throughout your pregnancy. This will make your pregnancy and delivery easier.
Well don't be disappointed if that perfect planning doesn't work. You do not decide when you get pregnant. Even with all of the fertility indicators. Just let it come naturally, when you get pregnant you get pregnant.
See your doctor for a pre-conception visit. Eat healthy, exercise, take vitamins with folic acid. If you take medication regularly for any health conditions, talk to your health care providers about making sure the ones you do take are compatible with pregnancy and breastfeeding. You may also want to have a titre drawn to be sure you still have immunity to rubella (German Measles) which can have very serious effects on a fetus. If you do need to be revaccinated for it, do so early, because once you are re-vaccinated you need to avoid pregnancy for several months. You may also want to consider genetic testing, if there's a concern about any genetic disorders like Tay-Sacs disease or cystic fibrosis. And make sure that your relationship is healthy and strong.
