How can I get my 6 yr old to not be afraid of the wet vaporizer?

She's absolutly terrified of it. She won't or can't tell us why but her sister is sick and needs it. I need some advise on why or how we can get her over this.

Answer:
Buy those ones that are Shape as a Frog, those are cute .target has them.
Or She can decorate it with some nice stickers(let her choose them). I think in this way she would see it as part of decoration of her room. But is also important that you explain her the purpose of that machine. I hope this works Good luck.
you could always get a waterless vaporizer, they don't make any noise and some of them just look like a night light, ( there is one made by Vicks and costs about 6.00) and to be honest the waterless ones are said to be better because if you have carpet the wet ones can cause mold.
Does the vaporizer make noise? Perhaps this is the problem. Try putting on music (soft and calming) in the background to help mask the noise of the vaporizer.
Also, definitely show her how it works. Let her help you assemble it, open it up, get it ready, whatever. Explain what each part does and WHY her sister needs it.
Does the vaporizer visibly blow steam into the air? Maybe it's just this new sight that makes it a little scary. Explain that it is just water... maybe talk about what steam is and how it is made. Demostrate with a tea kettle to show that it is the same thing. Maybe she is concerned about it blowing on her? If this is the case, why not try moving it to a different part of the room or facing it away from her?
