What is an awesome birthday gift for a one year old little girl?

This is for my sister in laws baby and we have had a rough past. My fiance won't be there as a buffer and I want to make a good impression on my own. HELP!

Books are the best gifts for babies. Dr. Seuss books, "Pat the Bunny" and "Goodnight Moon" are my favorites for 1 year olds. Next best toys for babies of this age are balls and large blocks (blocks large enough that they cannot fit in the mouth.) Or you could get a Baby Einstein DVD.
Buy a Zero Coupon Bond that will mature when the baby reaches college age. They are just pennies on the dollar and it is a gift that the parents will be thankful for and the child will be also thankful for when it is of age beings the baby don't have a clue about presents now
some type of ride on toy, no peddles, that is the stage they are at now
Flowers to hold, sniff and play with ... I'd give her flowers!

Well, you did not say what made for the rough past .. why not get her some really pretty knitted things. like a cute hat with a rolled brim and ties for under her chin... and a matching pair of mittens ...

Or a little soft book with fuzzy creatures to feel ... or maybe a nice plastic bottle for juice with a lid and a straw that fits into it . but a nice one from somewhere

or, a nice little bag with handles to attach to her stroller, to take cheerios and a drink to the park or the store, with her name on it ... and a
zipper on the top so things wont fall out ...

Peace & Love
The coupon idea posted above is a really good idea! Otherwise, maybe a ride on toy... or books, cute clothes, or a combination of all 3...

It is the baby's first birthday, so don't overwhelm him or her with too many gifts...
Check out the site below. It has awesome and unusual gift ideas for anyone and everyone. I have bought a lot from this site. They are wonderful!
The Laugh & Learn Learning Home from Fisher Price. Here is the link
http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=2...

It is a little pricer at $65 but my daughter just got it (she will be one next week) and she plays with it for hours.

Every single part of the house is interactive and it helps them to learn shapes and colors. She learned on and off by playing with the light switch on the house. Also she learned open and close by playing with the door on the house. Everytime she would close or open the door, the house would say "open," "close" etc.Although she cant say these words yet, understanding the commands came in handy when she began discovering the cabinet doors in the kitchen.

If you do not mind spending the money this truely is the best gift my daughter has recieved. I highly recommend it.

You can buy it at Babies R Us or Toys R Us. Here is a link to a $5 off coupon for Babies R Us if you wish to buy it.

At this age hard paged books were my oldest daughters favorite thing to play with and my youngest daughter loves cars. So put into perspective what the child likes is the best bet!
That's crazy! I was going to say the Laugh And Learning home also! My son received this for his 1st birthday and LOVED it!!
I know others have said it already but the fisher price laugh and learn home has got to be one of their best toys. I bought if for my daughter for when she turned 1 year old. 6 months later she still plays with it as if its brand new. I give it 5 out of 5.
Anything that can aid in development. Maybe a push or pull toy is she's not walking yet, something to aid in speech (books are WONDERFUL...my daughter loves the ones that play music), a wooden puzzle with large knobs to work on fine motor skills, stacking cups to learn "in" and "out", blocks of various sizes, shape sorter, play telephone, animal farm to work on animal sounds, play kitchen or play food with bowls, plates, and utensils, toddler dinnerware set.
Here's a gift that is sure to be A HIT! Have a custom diaper cake made. Make it a bedtime cake.complete with well known story books (Seuss, Boynton), pajamas, a lullabye CD, nightlight, and a new stuffed animal friend!! Oh guess what.I make custom diaper cakes!!

My one year old is FASCINATED with the cakes that I make. They are colorful, and full of fun things for kids. Your sister in law would be really wowed, I think.

Check out my site.
