Potty training a 4 year old little girl?

my daughter has been resisting potty training for over a year---mind you for the past 8 months i have been pregnant and every book in the known world says to to traiwith another child on the way- but this needs to be done...any hints on how to get it to stick in her head..i've tried the reward system.. but no consistency.. thank you for answering..

Well, I have a son who is 4 also. We just finally potty trained him. He was the most stubborn of all my kids so far. He is the third here to be potty trained, might I add. We also have a 10 month old daughter here. So, he is 3rd of 4 children.

I like you did all the things I could think of, bought him his favorite character undies, rewards, potty time book, rubber pants... the works. And nothing worked.

Here is what did however finally work. But if you do this you have to stay home for a good 3 days. With no interruption. Let her run around in just her underwear and a tee shirt all day for a good 3 days. Every half hour, put her on the toilet (I always ran the water to help). She has to get use to the feeling of contracting her muscles to push the pee out.. so my doctors told me was the case. After a while she will get the idea. She will definitely not like the feeling of pee running down her legs, as she has an accident. I know you will have messes to clean up, so put an old tablecloth or towel under her, when shes sitting anywhere to avoid ruining the furniture and other household things. When she does have an accident, dont make a big deal out of it. But when she does successfully go on the toilet make a HUGE deal out of it. Call grammie, or someone that she looks up to, and let her tell them what a big girl she is, and how she used the potty all by herself! It will make it more rewarding. Every time my son did, we called someone, and I would pick him up, hug him, kiss him, and sing praises to him at how good he was, and what a great job he's doing.

This is the only thing that worked for him, and I hope this gives you some help also. Take care & Best of Luck to you all!
ask to your mother in law or to your mom because they knows much better that how to take care of babies
The only thing I can think of would be to take her favorite candy... for example M&Ms and put them in a jar where she can see them, but cant reach them. Then encourage her to go potty. She will eventually sit there and eyeball the M&Ms or Skittles or whatever and want one. Just tell her she needs to go potty in the bathroom to get the prize. If this is not working, you could try a potty chair or something along those lines. There are so many different singing, talking, etc potty chairs you can choose from and one just might suit her. If NOTHING you try works, she just might not be ready yet. Not all milestones are reached at the same time by all children, and I bet if you give her some time, she'll be just fine.

Congrats on the little one coming!
When they say stop potty training while you are pregnant they assume that the child is around 2 years old...NOT 4! You should have kept traning her when you were pregnant! Whats wrong with you..4 is way too old to still be in diapers. Especially for a girl...

she is able to hold it by now...have her pick out some cute undies and make her wear them. She will have accidents but thats your fault.
My kids only respond to "cold turkey" methods. My 3 year-old needed to be potty trained for school so about a month before school started, I put her the heavy cotton pants and plastic pants. She wasn't happy with the situation and things were messy in the beginning but it worked. We just put her on the potty every so often. Eventually, she was able to tell us when she needed to go. We just moved her to real panties - cute, light cotton type. She seems very proud.

On rewards, I got very tired to rewarding the kid every time she sat on the potty. It was hard to be consistent because of having a younger child to care for, being out of the house, etc. We eventually decided to give her a prize at the end of the day for keeping her panties dry all day. The prizes weren't big - a sucker, barrettes, stickers, etc but it seemed like a good compromise.
