Can anyone recommend a fun day out for me and my two and a half yr old toddler in the New Forest?
Answer:
My kids love Hatchetts Pond for a picnic, a paddle (in wellies at this time of year), throwing sticks and stones in the water etc. I don't know if the ferries still run from Hythe but they used to love a trip down the pier on the little train and just going over to Southampton and back on the ferry (whilst you're over there Mayflower park is good fun). Also Lepe Beach for kite flying or playing football or something, Calshot Beach too. Christchurch and Bournemouth aren't far. There is also a country park down at Ringwood (sorry can't remember the name) where you only pay to park. It has play areas, picnic areas, a train ride and a woodland trail. Have to say they also love Paultons Park but it costs a fortune. Have fun

Paulton's Park. I've nnot been there myself but many of my friends go with their young children and have a whale of a time.
My kids are too old but I hope to go there with my grandchildren one day!
Enjoy ...!
we went to farmer palmers for a day out. its not in the forest - about an hours drive.
you could also go to the deer sanctury or hire a bike and trailer in Burley and really explore the forest.
I have an idea for you, but it's not going some place.
I take care of my nephew often. He is almost 2.5.
One thing he loves to do is play with baloons. I blow up about 6 or 7 baloons of differnt colours and sizes, and put on some kids music. Raffi's Singable Songs for the Very Young works well.
Then we throw, kick, and chase the baloons, all over the place. We also throw them to each other, dance with them, and stick them on the wall after rubbing them on the cat. It's so much fun for both him and I, and it can last an entire afternoon.
I hope you have as much fun with your child as I have with my nephew.
