Have friends over with their parents (of course) have a birthday cake, give a big piece to the baby so he/she can smush his face in it. Have some toys out.
That's about it. Make coffee or another drink for the parents, make sure there's plenty of seating and give everyone a chance to hang out, talk and eat some cake.

Have them a little party at your house for your family and friends. No need to spend a ton of money for it. What is their favorite character? Do the party in that theme.
I agree with the favorite theme answer. Invite other little ones from play group, day care etc. The children wont really care much, all you need is a play area for the kids, and special mini cake for your child is a cute touch. Cater more to the parents; they're the ones that will remember the day.
U r lucky and u have angel... this is mean a celebration...but ...do u think the 1 yr old can appreciate a parties?...i don't think so...ok..the 1st thing u can do is to pray and to thanks to the Lord that u have a healthy child then if u can manage to give ur child a party ...go on...but not that expensive...huh...this is not practical my dear.and do not forget the picture taking.this is the precious moment ...coz when ur child reach the stage of appreciation...then...u can say to ur child...honey this is ur 1st b-day....GOD bless u.
