Two naps to one, how do you know??

My sixteen month old daughter still takes two naps, for 1&1/2 hours each. I was wondering, when do most toddlers typically switch to one nap, does it happen naturally, or do we try to push her to one? Also, how can you tell when they're ready?

Answer:
Is she well rested? Is she sleeping at those nap times? Is she sleeping at night? As far as I am concerned, just go with the kid and what they seem to need. My daughter, when she was 2 would often nap for half an hour and than for 4 hours. In JK we had problems because some of the parents kids didn't need naps and some of our did.

All kids have different requirements, go by what you feel your child is needing and using. If she is not sleeping properly at night, it could be due to too much sleep in the day, if all she wants to do is play at nap time, it could be time to drop one. Relax, enjoy the nap time and let your child tell you what she needs to do. Pretty soon you’ll be wishing she did have the extra naps!
I did when my son started fighting and not wanting to take two anymore this was at 13 months though and I wished he would have still taken two lol. But I would just do it naturally
Haha i guess the obvious answer is when they stop getting sleepy.
so long as shes sleeping well at night leave her alone.
my son stopped the morning nap at nine months. he started sleeping longer in the morning. he would wake up at 6 am for diaper and bottle and go right back to sleep. usually while i was changing him. he would then sleep to nine. he took his nap from 1pm to3-4 pm and bed at 9pm
our daughter switched to one nap around 18 months. We knew because her naps were getting shorter and at night she was not falling asleep easy and was waking up earlier and earlier in the AM.
My three year old took two 1.5 hour naps a day until he was almost two and then it merged into one 3 hour nap on his own. My 15 month old hasn't taken two naps a day since he was 9 months old and I am lucky if he sleeps for two hours. It totally depends on the child and his or her own rhythms. In my case, I think my younger son adapted to his older brother's nap schedule b/c not much sleep can happen with an active three year old tearing the house up!!
My son cut out a nap around 1 year and I knew b/c he went down in the morning just fine but the afternoon nape he would fight me on and only sleep 30 min. So I moved his a.m. nap up to noon and now he takes one 1 hr nap but goes to bed pretty early(like 6-6:30pm). The books say they drop their second nap around 18 months but each kid is different. It will happen naturally, but if your daughter isn't fighting you, then just keep putting her down for two. When you do move to one, her bedtime should be moved up but if she's getting 12-14 hrs of sleep total, then don't mess with bedtime. Good luck!
my son is 19 months and just started napping once a day.he used to wake at 6 am and nap from 10-11 and 2-3.30.not he wakes up at 7,naps at 1pm-2.30 or 3 pm then hes in bed at 7.30pm
You'll know when she just needs one. With my daughter, she just started fighting the second nap. When I'd put her down for nap #2, she'd just lay in her bed and jabber and play for the longest time and not go to sleep. (I think she was around 15 months or so when this happened). Now she's down to one nap a day- and it usually lasts about 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours.
My 14 month old is just going from 2 naps to 1 at the moment. I found she was getting more fussy at her evening bedtime and taking over an hour to settle because she just wasn't tired enough. I tried dropping the afternoon nap which tired her right out by the evening, and also making the daytime nap a little later, around 10.30 or 11am, so that she'd be tired enough to have a good nap and give me a break.
