V smile and games are a lot of fun.

chalkboard/dry erase board easel

Spiderman or Batman tent is popular for 3s

Small bicycle or trike
u can get him some cars that he won't swallow.(big cars)
Stay basic...
A toy or two from his favorite new Move ( Cars, Toy Story)
A bag/box of legos
Match Box cars
Maybe a big boy bike if he hasn't already gotten one with a new helmet and saftey pads.
ANy kind of V-tech or Learning PAd toys are always fun for kids and for parents .
What is HE interested in? How about books?
Kid K'nex are the best learning toy ever. My kids love them and they saw them at their friends' place and we got them too. My nephew was just visiting and he played with them at our place and loved them so his parents bought them for him too. My son is 3 and can make wonderful things with the regular size K'nex too. They're great for imagination and fine motor development.
Books are a timeless gift and help foster language and reading skills. Or how about a blow up ball pit for when he's feeling rowdy? How about an art set? Crayons markers and fingerpaints are always fun. Crayola Color Wonder has great options!
