Is there a recomended age for testing a child's IQ?
Answer:
IQ tests do range down that low, so if you wanted him to be assessed, I'm sure you could go to a psychologist and have your son evaluated. However, keep in mind that the IQ score you obtain around age three won't be as stable (meaning consistent over time) as the one you can get around age eight or nine.
You can wait till preschool. They do assessment tests to find out exactly where the child`s academic level is at so that he can be placed in gifted programs if he qualifies.
I'd actually be interested in knowing the answer to that question. My son was just accepted into the gifted program at his school. He is in kindergarten, but this program doesn't actually begin for children until 2nd grade.
If he's already showing signs of accelerated development, it's certainly not going to hurt him to be tested. I was first tested at about 5, and probably should have been tested earlier.
Using the stardard WIS test 3 years old. Most examiners suggest waiting until mid year of the first year of school.
Let your kids be kids people! Dont push them so hard. 3 years old and you are worried about IQ tests for him? Am i the only one who finds that a bit odd?
The usual age psychologists do this tests is 5. But If he speaks and memorizes that good you could take him to a specialist to see if they make those tests before 5.
I'm not sure I agree with childhood testing.
IF your child NEEDS to be tested to get into a gifted program, then so be it...when the time comes. However, you as a parent should not need an IQ test to tell you if your child is smart or not.
If anything, childhood scores are also a very very poor representation of adulthood intelligence, so it seems pointless to me to push a test on a child so young, and then expect things from him he may or may not be able to achieve. Let kids be kids...
