My 2 year old has what look like cradle cap is it possible for him to have cradle cap at 2? and what can i do?
Answer:
yes, it is possible, if he sweats a lot he could have it. Rub the spots with baby oil and let it set maybe 3 or 4 minutes and comb it out with ease. Watch you don't scratch the skull. It should come out really easy. Good Luck. and don't worry most all kids get it.
cotton balls with vinegar and thoroughly swab it until it goes away. Cradlecap is fungus.
Does your little one have any allergies? We thought my daughter had cradle cap, but it continued into her fifth year. Once she was on the right mixture of allergy meds, it cleared right up. So, that MIGHT be a possibility for your child.
Using a gentle brush (like a baby's first brush), exfoliate it when bathing and washing with soft strokes and some kind of very mild dandruff shampoo. maybe water it down first being very careful never to get it into his eyes...
Since it is oily, and his hair has grown in completely now, I don't suggest oil anymore as they do with an infant, it may clog the pores and deter hair growth through sebum clogs in the folicle?
But to be certain (I could be wrong?) Contact your peditrician or get a referral for a dermatologist.
Depending on exactly what you have there, (as I can't see it to be sure,) a doctor is always your best bet!
We are constantly making new skin cells at about the rate that we lose old, dry skin cells. The old skin falls off and we usually don't even notice the process. In many healthy infants, the skin cells on their scalp grow faster than they can fall off, leaving a layer of somewhat crusty, extra skin.
What is it?
Cradle cap is a crusting and scaling rash found on the scalps of many healthy babies. The sebaceous glands in their skin are hyper-activated often because of mom’s hormones that crossed the placenta just before birth. These glands pump out a greasy substance that keeps the old skin cells attached as it dries.
Cradle cap is NOT fungus!
My lil fella had cradle cap till he was about 3 or 4. Its nothing to worry about but if you want to get rid of it rub baby oil or olive oil into his scalp and leave it for a 5 -10 minutes then use a fine tooth comb to comb the skin out. It will leave his hair greasy so you may want to wash it after. This wont always get rid of it all and it wont stop it coming back. If you want to leave it that's fine too, some of it comes off when you wash his hair anyway and eventually it will stop.
There is a possibility it will return when he is a teenager and the ol' hormones start going off again. Its life.
Yes, it's possible, my two year old still gets a spot or two of cradle cap every once in a while. My Dr told me we could use a dandruff shampoo like head and shoulders on a regular basis to get rid of it. If you try this, make sure you don't get it in his eyes.
Good luck.
My six year old still gets it too. We were told to use Head and Shoulders. I use it a couple times a week and a baby shampoo on it the other times. I sometimes rub a little baby oil on it. I was told he was having a reaction to the shampoo I was using (children's Sauve). I would not advise trying to get the dry skin off the hair. I have found that it pulls the hair out. The Head and Shoulders has worked pretty well. You can water it down a little before you put it in his hair.
