How do I get my 1 year old son to drink his MILK from the sippy cup?
Thanks in advance!!!!
Answer:
Your son is on the right track. Juice is good for him, milk certainly not.
There is only one reason which I've found to support humans drinking cow's milk. We have grown up hearing that it's good for us and that we've grown accustomed to the taste and texture. Otherwise there is absolutely no nutrition that can not be obtained elsewhere, minus the negatives. Calcium seems to be the major claim for milk. It can be found elsewhere in green vegetables, almonds, and many other sources. Why we continue to drink cow's milk laced with growth hormones, antibiotics, and who knows what else is beyond me.
Since I've given up drinking milk about 5 years ago my health has greatly improved. Fewer allergy problems, asthma and breathing problems greatly reduced, I'm sleeping better, and I have more energy.
Do some research online and decide for yourself.

Try mixing the milk with Nesquik (chocolate or strawberry).
Only give him milk in the sippy cup, no more juice AT ALL , till he gets it and cooperates. Might take 3 days; that's how long it took my nephew. My cousin just cold turkey threw away the bottles and stuck to her guns and he gave up after 3 days, he really wanted his milk.
Is he still drinking milk from the bottle?
mix a little strawberry or choc syrup with it that how i got mine to
If that is the only way you give it to him, he will, patience.
my friends son would NEVER drink milk from a sippy cup, and then my boyfriend was amazed that my daughter will. He says that seems soooooo gross! I'm thinking maybe its just a personal thing. Maybe it seems gross to your son to suck the milk through the sippy. Maybe try offering it in a regular small cup or let him pick a different type sippy at the store and call it the "milk cup". Just an idea.
Hope this helps
It is a process, sometimes slower with others. Don't be in too much of a rush. He will eventually make the switch. For him it is a soothing thing that reminds him a babyhood. If you really are wanting him off the bottle completely than I suggest that you make the milk a little more enticing. Add just a drop of strawberry or chocolate flavoring. Ovaltine has added vitamins which makes it better than hersheys syrup.
Bottles are better than sippy cups as far as dentistry goes. Bottles are designed to put the least amount of pressure on the gums/teeth/soft palate possible. Generally they have dentists consult on designing nipples.
Nobody seems to put any effort into making sippy cups good for teeth. The soft spouted ones are particularly bad.
So I wouldn't be in any big rush to get him to take his milk out of a cup. Just give him the bottle and make sure he drinks it all in one go rather than sipping milk throughout the day.
Does he drink milk at all? In a bottle even?
My 13 month old won't drink milk period (and would never drink formula either - she was BF until about 4 wks ago.) I've tried the chocolate and strawberry syrup too, and practically every bottle/sippy-cup under the sun but no luck.
I make her cereal with milk every morning and add milk to as much other stuff as I can. (I've even asked on YA and people suggested Soy Milk, "Vanilla Silk" etc. but I never tried those.) She eats tons of yogurt and shredded cheese.
We're doing a bit better now that we've gotten her to drink "Danimals" yogurt drinks though (see: http://www.dannon.com/dn/dnstore/cgi-bin... ) and we've started adding milk to them. After about 3 weeks we're now at 1/3 worth of milk to 2/3 yogurt drink. (Slams them back in no time at all, so we tried 2/3 milk to 1/3 yogurt drink yesterday and that was a no-no!!)
Good luck!
He drinks his juice from it cause juice is so good!! take the bottles and throw em out!! that way you have nothing to fall back on! He will get the hang of it. Try the sippies with the soft spout cause it kinda feels like the nipple of a bottle! Good luck!
Just a tip for you that use white milk and hershey's syrup. It's not the same as chocolate milk. Try the real thing. When you use the syrup it tends to end up in a big chunk at the bottom of the cup and really doesn't taste any different than white milk. I used to do that thinking it was cheaper...It's not. It came to the point I was tired of mixing that crap together and started buying the real deal and my daughter loved it that much more. Good luck with you. It will just take time. Kids work on THEIR time frame never yours. :) The soft tip sippy cups would probably work for you because it's makes it more of a transition for you. BUT.those things are a gripe to clean up after. What ever is in them ends up everywhere. The one I used and the only one I've seen is one called a NUBY. They have it at Walmart.
My son wouldn't take milk from his sippy cup either. You tried choco milk, did you try strawberry. Also, warm it a little...and use 2%. My son does not thick drinks. Example...he will not drink chocolate milk, but, will drink yoo-hoos. They are not as thick. Once I noticed that, I got the two percent. Then warmed it. And, my son would not drink regular choco. milk that I mix myself, but, he would drink the strawberry. All of our tastes are different.
You did something wrong? You took the bottle away from your 1 year old to fast. You needed to give your child the zippy cup for the day time first and the bottle at night when the child is getting ready to turn 2 than at night I start with the zippy cup. You have to do things slowly with your child and introducing something new slowly if you do it fast they won't do what you tell them. Remember you child has been on the bottle for a year and you have to approach the child with it slowly. good luck
