What can I give a four-year-old for diarrhea?

My son has had diarrhea all day today. Does anyone know if I can give him Pepto Bismol and if so, how much, a teaspoon? Thank you.
Answers:   They have the KIDS chewable tablets. I would give him what it says on that package which I believe is 1 tablet.
give him a bottle of cough sryup. He'll be afraid to caugh lol
They have Children's Pepto, I would sugest using that and calling the doctor in the morning if it is severe. Also make sure to keep him well hydrated with clear juices, water, and electrolyte drinks.
SERIOUSLY APPLE SAUCE AND MIX JELLO WITH WATER , THAT ALSO WORKS..YOU COULD TRY SOMETHING LIKE A LITTLE IMODIUM AND OR PEPTO BISMOL, BUT TRY THE HOME REMEDIES FIRST..CAUSE SOMETIMES MEDICINES WILL WORK DIFFERENT ON SMALL CHILDREN.
Well, it depends on your son's age. If he is 3-5yrs. old then YES it is fine to give him pepto-bismol. But, ONLY a teaspoon. Be sure that you give it to him only ONCE a day if you must.
I don't think a physician would approve of Pepto. Because of all the fluid loss, you'll want to make sure he is taking in as much fluids as possible. Make the fluids count too, like Pedialyte would be the best but Gatorade is almost as good. Try to get him to eat a banana as well because they are found to bind. Good luck to you. As long as you're replacing the fluids it should correct itself in a day or two. If not contact your physician.
Here's a link to everything you should ever need to know about diarrhea. From causes to treatment. http://www.webmd.com/hw/parenting_news/h... Realistically, since it's been a day, the thing you have to worry about the most so far is dehydration, so you should at least keep him drinking and if it lasts till tomorrow too, consider an electrolyte drink like the pedialyte. I wouldn't try to medicate it, it might be something that just passes within a day or so. More than 2 days, or if it seems like really severe diarrhea (lots and lots of bowel movements in a small amount of time) then i would decide to take him in to the doctor or at least call.
dose your son like ice pops because if he dose Pedialyte makes those and a drink for kids one and older . And you wouldn't have to worry about if he's to young or to old to take it and it's something that can help him with his diarrhea.
I don't know if you've ever seen the commercial on television before but there is this Juice called PediaLite for toddlers and children who suffer from Diarrhea. You can find this juice at your local grocery store or at the supermarket. But to be on the safe side, talk to your childs physician about PediaLite before giving it to him. You could also try a home remedy by buying a piece of ginger from the supermarket and boiling it and making a tea out of it. Your son might not like it but it works! My mother used to give me this when I had a stomach virus or Diarrhea and it flushed out everything. You could also try boiling rosemary and thyme tea. Good Luck!
WARNING - Pepto is a salicylate and is not recommended in children in the presence of fever as it can cause Reyes Syndrome.

If he has diarrhea, his body is trying to get rid of something (bacteria, virus). It's better to let him run, but keep him hydrated with Pedialyte. Also, you can start him on the BRAT diet.
Give him the pepto for kids plus make sure you have some pedilight for dehydration
Pedia waters are best for diarrhea. They have electrolytes and very little sugar. Look for Pedialyte or the off brand versions of Pedialyte.
Pepto Bismol actually has asprin in it which should never be given to children because it can cause Reye Syndrome. It would be better to give the BRAT diet. Lots of Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast. Also give some Pedialyte so he does not get dehydrated.
