Baby Dolls??

I was thinking about getting my son a life like baby doll, so that maybe he would get used to having to be nice to the baby... before we have it... I am due in June, and my son seems sweet enough, but he is not ever around small babies...

Opinions Please... Good Idea or Stupid Idea??

My hubby don't think boys should play with dolls, but I think it would give him good practice in being nice..

Answer:
GREAT IDEA!!
I have 2 boys; a 3 year old and a 4.5 month old.
My 3 y.o was in daycare with mostly girls so he was exposed to lots of "let's play house" and has developed a very nurturing nature.
Shortly before his brother was born we bought him a baby doll and a doll stroller. He still plays with it. He bathes his baby, feeds it, dresses it, puts a newborn diaper on it, etc...
It has been great! When I am going to change or feed the baby, he runs and gets his baby and copies what I am doing.
It has really kept him occupied, cut down on any jealousy and is teaching him some great skills which as he and his brother get older, he can help me with. He loves to hold his brother, feed him and help bathe him(under supervision of course!)! It is so cute and we've gotten lots of great pictures!!

Good luck with your delivery and congratulations on the new family member!!

(Remember - we are not only raising sons but someone's future husband/father!! We should at least try to do a good job!!)

(And Yes my husband is very involved and a great role model!
He wrestles with our son, plays sports, builds stuff, reads, is teaching him how to use the computer, etc...he's a manly, tattooed, biker sort of dad! lol)
My son had dolls when he was young. In fact, he's 17 and still sleeps with a huge pile of stuffed animals. I don't see a problem with it. In fact, I think it helps him be better adjusted.
I think it's a great idea if you want to raise your son to be a social train-wreck. What's next, frilly panties? I have an open mind, I really do, but when it comes to raising kids, old fashioned is best. He can learn to be nice by having a solid male role model who is nice. If your husband takes time to play catch with him or build model airplanes with him, or whatever; and teaches him self respect, integrity, and compassion in the process, you have nothing to worry about. If he plays with dolls now, the other kids will ridicule him. Sad but true. Little girls who play with toy cars would likely not get picked on, but for boys, it is ingrained at a very young age that being masculine is not to be fooled around with. That does not mean that boys can't learn to be nice. He will be nice to the baby if you teach him to. Lead by example and make sure that you and your husband take time out to show him attention too.
I think that's great! My nephew plays with dolls when he sees a baby, he likes to imitate others-so perhaps that would be a great learning thing for your son-they are the same age.
my mom bought my son a baby doll when he was about 2. he loved his baby, but eventually outgrew it when he turned about 3. i think it halped out when we had our second son in June. He loves on him and pets on him and is wonderful with him. he evn says that he is "his" baby. I think it's a great idea.
I think it is a good idea to help him through the transition of a new child. Dramatic play is important for all children regardless of gender, and fathers help with babies too.
