What is a good gift to give a one year old boy?
Answer:
I got my grandson a tonka truck that is plastic on the bottom and sort of a rubbery soft material on top. It was a fun safe toy for him that he loves.

Good luck
Are you thinking maybe something he might . . .remember?
I don't think it wil make a difference, he hasn't a clue what a birthday is.
My son loves anything that makes noise or lights up. Also toys that are small that he can carry around with him are a big hit right now. Weebles or small toy trucks (they make 'em for 12mos)
My son will be one on Feb 3rd and he is getting a Fisher Price Drop-n-roar- dinosaur for his roll-arounds! It is so cute and he has loved it at friends' houses. Also, most babies are beginning to walk around that time, so a walk/ride on toys is a great 1st birthday gift, he got one for Christmas and loves playing with it. Also, the Fisher Price Little People sets are great, they have a circus, zoo, etc. We have a Noah's Ark and a Manger scene, he loves them both. Mega blocks are fun, too and something he can grow with, they make a small set of them that come with a dump truck and a little construction worker. Leap Frog has a Discovery Ball, Learn and Groove Maracas, and Little Touch Leap Pad that are great and fun! Generally Fisher Price and Leap Frog have the best and most educational toys for your money! Hope that helps!
I usually give savings bonds for their first birthday. Because those toys don't last very long and most kids get a ton of stuff on their birthday.
an activity cube
I would ask the parents what they need or want this is always helpful and avoids purchasing things they don't use or need. One year olds are exploring the world around them. Try a tactile book or mobile. They will also still be teething and so a gift that allows them to chew up and pull at and see themselves is a great one. If you are very close to the parents - I don't know how you feel about this, but it is a great gift and very welcome - you can make up a certificate that tells the parents you will give them a night off and will babysit for them one night so they can remember what it feels like to be a couple again.
Lego/Duplo and MegaBlocks are huge in a boys world. Every boy we know, from a year old to age 8, is totally in love with Legos. Toys R Us and Target carry the sets for 12 month olds.
Here is a link so you what Toys R Us has to offer:

Bath toys are always a safe bet. Here's a link to the bath toys at Target so you can look at them:

Have fun! ;-)
At that age, they don't understand the concept. I would give a savings bond.
I have many suggestions for you. Open ended toys that will grow with your child is the best option. For example, a good set of wooden blocks will be a toy your child will play with for many years. I have a blog reviewing natural toys that may be useful.

Is he walking? A walker wagon is great!

I also have handpicked toys off Amazon that I have personal experience with as a preschool teacher and mother.
You can view them by clicking the online store link off my blog.
Happy Birthday!
