Are they playing house? If so she might be the "mom" and he might be the "son" and your husband the "dad". I would not make anything of it unless he doesn't have a dad in his home and is using your husband as a substitute. My step-daughter has a best friend and they have been friends since they were in grade school (Way before I met my husband) and she called her friend's mom "mom" and a few of her friends call my husband "dad".
It sounds like a game. Maybe they played 'House' at school with some other kids. They will grow out of it.
