How Long do the "Why's" last?

My 3 1/2 year old son just started asking WHY for EVERYTHING! His first respone to every question, comment, or statement is WHY? How long does this last, and how have other people dealt with it?

Answer:
I thought the "Whys" were great.

I always used it as an opportunity to build inquisitiveness that I hope will last a lifetime.

I always answered with a very positive attitude and one or two sentances as a reward for the questions. I never answered with the "Because I said so." response (even though once or twice I had a tinge of a feeling to answer that way.)

I wish you good luck and I hope you get half the joy I had when I was called upon to answer all the "Why" questions.
I remember it lasting only a little while. (Half a year). As far as dealing with it, I just kept answering her questions. Good luck! :)
Until they move out and even after that I don't know!!
Why?
Haha, my husband still does it! He's very inquisitive.
I'm not sure this is any consolation, but my son will be 6 this month and he STILL asks all the "whys?" he can. Sometimes it may seem a bit random or even annoying, but remember that your child is learning from all of these questions and it is a good thing they are so curious about their surroundings and eager to learn.

When they reach their teens and start doing things on their own WITHOUT asking, you'll wish they'd revert back to that "why?" stage to make you feel like you're doing your job as a parent again! LOL
OMG! I remember my little brother doing that, I feel for you. Don't worry it doesn't last too long, just try to answer his questions as annoying as it is, I heard it's the best thing a parent can do.
The answer to every why question is: Why not.
Just ask RFK.
i dunno my husband is 26 and he still asks why alot.lol.my 3 and a half yr old daughter havent started the why stage yet but she has started the "what" stage and the "i want this" stage and "i dunno" stage...lol.i remeber when i was a kid i used to say why to almost everything my parents tells me to something and they used to tell me "dont ask me why just do it.if i wanted you to tell you why i would told you the first time you asked" and finally i got over that stage when i was about 12 and then it became the "why do i have to" stage up until i got married when i was 21.lol
The why's can last until they are through kindergarten.
I think it goes through preschool too.
