Child with a blister in the mouth?
It's pretty good size a little white tinged but on the back of the blister it looks blood red. When he drank out of a sippy cup this morning, he cried. I took the cup away and gave him tylenol and a glass of cold milk to drink with a straw; telling him to drink it on the sides of his mouth.
Does anyone know what this is? Should I take him to a doctor and what could I do at home to treat it myself?
Answer:
That could be many things and you should get him checked out, but my daughter had something similar but on her gums all around her teeth. She is actually just getting over it. All of her gums were completely swollen and red (covering half way down her teeth) and they actually started bleeding. She didn't have a blood blister, but I've seen them. When they pop, they spew blood which looks more alarming than it is. However, I would definitely take him to a doctor because it could be viral (like my daughter's) or it could be more. The doctor said that if she had blisters, it could be a sign of oral herpes, but she doesn't have that. You should get that checked out and make sure it's nothing serious. If it turns out to be viral, ask about some Magic Mouthwash. It's a physician's mix with lidocain and it works wonders. I also gave my daughter tylenol and when I stopped the Mouthwash, I gave her benedryl which helped greatly!
Good luck!
It could possibly be the start of the Coxsackie virus (hand, foot and mouth virus). The most common signs are blisters or white spots in the mouth, and sometimes they develop on the hands and feet. They can also run a fever also. Mine had this but didn't get blisters anywhere else but in the mouth. And it lasted for about a week. The doctor said since it was viral, we just had to wait it out though. So it could possibly be that or anything else. You can always call your doctor's office and see what they say about it. It sounds like you've done everything you can do at this point to ease his pain.
keep him away from his dad...this worries me.
