How much does speech therapy costs?
Answer:
first of all, check and see if your insurance (if you have any) covers speech therapy. you may have to get a referral from the child's pediatrician. next, check into being evaluated for other possible problems, deafness, mental disability and otherwise (possible {but unlikely!} causes are autism, pdd, pdd nos, maybe aspergers, i can't remmeber off hand). there are physical problems with the mouth that can cause issues with speech. have the child evaluated for those. if you do not ave insurance, in this case i don't think anyone can disagree with you getting medicaid, it's for your baby, to get him/her the care needed. also, check with the school to see if they can provide services. the local board of disabilities may be able to help give you some ideas on what to do and how to go about it.
What state do you live in?
What's your medical coverage like?
If money is not a big issue, bless you, that's great.
But hopefully there's a social worker near you who can give you your options, and know the answer better than would I.
Also, Catholic Charities helps support families with special needs children. Maybe they can inform you, too.
you can probably find it for free.. Through an elementary school. My brother had speech therapy as a part of his class they usually have specialist there that do it
If the school system determines it's necessary, it may cost nothing.
for my kids ( both my boys were in it starting at age 3) my insurance covered my younger one. i didnt have insurrance with my older boy, but they saw i was lowincome and waived the cost...i live in wisconsin and the lady who did my son told me that thay will almost always waive the cost if there is no insurance..
This should be something your insurance will help cover. Also, if your child is in a public school system (pre-K) they will offer it through the school. However, you might want to call your local audiologist or hospital and see if they can recommend someone that you can talk to about pricing and treatment options. The website below can also help you contact someone in your area. Finally, if you cannot find any one else or do not have the resources to obtain outside help (time, money...) then you can look up "speech therapy" on google or yahoo and there are training aids parents can use with their children. Good luck.
With no insurance i have seen over $200 per hour. My insurance I had a copay since it was medically necessary. Most schools provide it free. For a 4 year old its called ECI Early Childhood Intervention. If the speech impediment is profound they want it corrected as mush as possible before kindergarten. Call your local elementary school and speak to the speech therapist as a starting point. This is free, but I liked my daughters private speech therapy so much better.
my son is in speech and it usually runs about $75.00 for 45 minutes.luckily we don't pay a dime. He is only 2 1/2 yrs and he has other delays so he is in our county's birth to three program, and what our insurance doesn't cover the county picks up. when he turns three he will go into early intervention program which is run by our school district. my advise to you is call your school district to find out if they would be able to test your child and offer you speech therapy. and also, if you have insurance talk to someone there.
