Ideas for a 4yr old while on a long car ride.?

We have around a 9-10 hour trip planned we will have plenty of stops, but I would love some ideas to keep my son happy and entertained.

Answer:
Have books, coloring books, games that travel well, etch a sketch, anything that is portable. Play word games, like I spy something a color and he guesses what it is. May be too complicated...practice ABC's it's the time to teach all that and colors and number flash cards to keep his muind occupied and learn too. Lots of small healthy snacks. Maybe a small puzzle or two and something to work them on. Good luck, have fun. He may sleep more on the drive too. that will help. Have dramamine just in case of car sickness, it helps them sleep too. I was one of those on long trips.
movies,a book
have a portable tv in the car bring music , play games come on your a father THINK!! im only 13 geez!!
Give him Gravol, make him sleep...lol.

No seriously, those dvd players in cars are fantastic. Or you could sit in the back with him and read him stories, colour with him, etc.
try a portable dvd player
DVD PLAYER THAT PLAYS IN THE BACK SEAT
Portable DVD player, Eye Spy, books, sing songs or let him have his cds in the cd player. Snacks help my kids also.
Magna doodle, books, kids cd's from the library, scavenger hunt, things to look for also remember kids sleep beter in the car then us adults. Make sure you stop and let him run around
Books on tape. For his age it should be easy to find cd's that come with a storybook and vice-versa, as well as the longer books on tape such as "Boxcar children" at the library.
Movies, games, take alon plenty of paper and washable colors, sing kid friendly songs, make up new games such as looking for a certain color of cars or trucks or certain animals or things that interest your child
DVD works like a charm for my 4 year old twins.
Have a portable DVD player? A pillow and a blanket to help them sleep during the ride. Markers bleed, crayons melt, pencils break...how about thos color wonder thingys? If all else fails give him you cellphone and let him call grandma on the way for a long conversation :-)
whatever he plays with at home he should be able to bring with him on car trip.
I got my son a travel litebrite. he LOVES it. Or invest in a portable DVD player, you can strap them to the back of your seat. We have one of those, because we travel from Canada to New MExico a lot... and we have found it a godsend! Make sure you bring a bunch of movies with you, and he should be fine. We also play games like-- Spot the Red Cars, or Eye Spy. Good luck!
My husband is in the army and we are stationed 1500 miles from home. We had to take my 2 1/2 year old twins home and the drive was 13 hours one day and 16 the next.needless to say i was worried sick my kids would cry the whole time, or be misrable. The trip actually went well. We stopped at places like mcdonalds, with play areas.let them run wild on each stop. We also brang along a portible DVD player and brang their favorite DVDs.then we would just talk to them, point things out from the windows ect. My kids barely slept, but overall did great. I'm sure things will go well if your son is allowed some run wild time! Good luck!
