Yogurt for my 10 month old?

Websites and doctors say my 10 month old can eat yogurt, but I have to idea what kind I'm supposed to buy? People have told me to buy a kind called YoBaby yogurt, but none of the grocery stores I go to carry it. So what can I get for her? Does it have to be whole fat, low fat, can it be flavored? Also, what kinds of cheeses can I give her? Thanks to everyone that can help!

Answer:
A lot of parents and doctors recommend YoBaby yogurt becuase it is organic and made from whole milk. Organic versus non-organic yogurt is more of a personal preference - some people like the idea of organic foods due to the risk of pesticides in food. If you can find an alternative yogurt brand that is made from whole milk, that would be a good choice for your daughter since she could use the extra fat in her diet at this age.

Stonybrook Farms (the same company that makes YoBaby) has a wide range of whole milk yogurt selections, if your local store sells this brand. If not, it is perfectly safe to feed your daughter yogurt made from low-fat or reduced fat milk. It's just that these yogurts won't give her as much fat in her diet. I would, though, stay away from fat-free yogurts since they frequently contain artifical sweeteners.

Flavored yogurt is perfectly fine. You might want to start out with plain or vanilla yogurt to make sure that she doesn't have a reaction to the yogurt itself first. If after a week of eating plain yogurt, she seems to tolerate it well, then let her try some flavored yogurts. Avoid flavors that tend to be high allergan foods like strawberries and blueberries at first, until you are sure that these foods won't cause a reaction in her. My son loved yogurt and it quickly became one of his favorite foods. We started out on plain yogurt, then moved to fruit flavored ones like banana, peach, and apple.

As for cheese, most pediatricians suggest that you stick to hard cheeses for infants. Medium sharp cheddar is a great first hard cheese to try since it has a nice flavor and is full of calcium. avoid soft cheeses (brie, for example) or any cheese that incorporates mold into the aging process (like blue cheese) until your child is older since these cheese can introduce bacteria into an infant's system before her digestive system is fully prepared to handle it.

Hope this helps!
I have only ever given my dd yobaby yoghurt. M not sure about other brands. Gerber baby food have some yoghurts also but i have never tried them. As for cheese Kraft singles or any other brank of single cheese should be ok. Just ask your pediatrician first.
