How do I get my 2 1/2 year old son to sleep all night in his own bed?

Answer:
you have to be prepared to get up and take him back every time he gets out of his own bed, my daughter was 3 and had slept with us till eventually my husband was in her bed..get him a new bed/quilt cover and get him to choose it, then get him to help make the bed up, make it a really exciting time, get him all happy about his new bed, how special it is, then at night take to bed, read to him and then its time to sleep, if he gets up take him back and say nanite, if he gets up take him back again, no cuddles or kisses, dont let him engage u in conversation, its tough but u gotta keep taking him back to bed, after a week my wee girl was in her own bed..dont give up, dont be tempted to let him to your bed, he will try every trick in the book..drinks, hungry, wet, dirty, scared and i love u mummy, but stick with it and u will all end up happier.good luck x

Nail him to it?
Pray for a miracle!

Personally I have never been able to get my children to do that. Best of luck!
every time he gets up, put him back in his bed, he'll eventually get the point.
A very tiny messure of brandy in hot milk, Worked on me.
keep returning him to his bed any time he gets up.
You have to be persistant and try to not say ok 5 minutes. read hima story and get hin tired out earlier in the day. if he screams ignore him. it may seam cruel but it works and is effective.
Tell him he will get something nice as a reward for being a big boy. That always help me with my god children.
It's a very complexed and time consuming method. First of all put him in his own bed at your choosen time. for example if its 7:30pm put him in bed at 7:15 and read him his favourate story for 15 mins to make him settle down or if he is to young play with some of his favourate calm toys. when you turn off the light at 7:30 say to him you will be back in 5 minutes to check on him. This will reasure him. If he is awake then tell him you will be back in 10 minutes or if he can't understand you just come back in that time. If he is still asleep at 7:40 for example come back again in 15 minuts. Keep doing this process and eventally he WILL get to sleep after the satages and gradully get used to it over time. Good Luck!
no one knows. my 2 yr old won't sleep thru the night and i have seen this question on here a 100 times.
I am so pleased you are in the throws of having your child sleep in his own bed, all to often this is ignored till it is to late these days. Personally I would talk to him about his own bed say half an hour before bed time and then he is aware of what is about to happen. Read him a story and let him have a night light, if he cries then I would go and reassure him, saying that Mum/Dad had their own room and he is a big boy now and soon he will have his friends around for sleep overs. Finally, I would give him time to play in his room throughout the day to get used to his own space. Good Luck and persevere.
Persevere by just taking him back with out talking to him just send a very clear message that it is bed time and thats where he has to sleep. It will prob take all night long and maybe at least 3 days but he will get the message!
Put him back in his crib, theres nothing wrong with it. At least he'll be safe and you'll know he hasn't gotten up during the night and gotten into something. A crib is as big as a toddler bed only confined.
