I am considering buying a Sony PSP for my 6 year old for X-Mas. Is he too young?
Answer:
At 6 years old I would say he is probably a little young for the PSP. I would my son a Game Boy Advance. The GBA is much easier and simpler to use and probably more practical for a 6 year old. The content of GBA games are also more suitable for a 6 year old, whereas the PSP games are more for adults or a more mature player (violence, language, etc.)
This is just my opinion. He is your son so you know him better. Which would he rather have? A handheld game system that is easy to use or one that is very complex for most 6 year olds.
Happy Holidays!
Yes! Instead of playing video games he should be reading, playing outside, or spending time with you!
i would say so, but its ultimately up to you. you should encourage activity and exercise though.. but its your choice
It basically Depends on what kind of games you plan to purchase for the Psp. I 've noticed on the Back of every Playstation box it says Ages 6 & up.
Yes!! That is a very expensive toy, and if he looses it, there goes a lot of money you could of spent on something else. You could always buy him the PSP when he gets older, like 10-12. He is way to young, and he would probably loose it in a few weeks or days.
Yes, none of the games are geared toward children that young. Try a Nintendo DS. Nintendo has a lot of games geared towards younger children (and adults as well). The PSP isn't the right choice for a 6 year-old. The nintendo is cheaper, as well.
If i was 6 years old i would want a Nintendo ds over the psp. The DS has more games that a six year old would enjoy!
Don't do it! Get him some cool toys, like legos or playmobil, or art supplies or some cool picture books. Video games at this age will have a permanent detrimental effect on his learning and development.
Give him the PSP, the only thing you have to worry about is the rating of the game. GIve your kid E for everyone games.
Do you want him playing it all the time instead of donig other activites? Because thats what will happen.
Ive seen toddlers with video games, I dont think theres any certain age to best get them one... just whether or not its the best choice for any particular child.
Yes he is too young... Instead try buying him a violin... If he can figure out electronics he can figure out music... wouldn't you rather have him expressing himself in something rich later on in life (and wooing the ladies with an actual talent) than hiding behind a computer screen getting all pasty and mal-nourished?
As a 20 yr old guy I can definately say he is too young. The best memories I have are before the age of 12...when I started playing video games. It is important to understand, and appreciate the simple things in life first while he still is able to. You don't need a computer to be your best friend. Why do you think there are 30 yr old kids living with mom and dad in the basement with a computer? They never developed any other relationships. Video Games are awesome, I just got done playing Medal of Honor...but moderation is better...tonight I'm going out with friends to a club...wait a few years for your son
I know someone who's 8 year old has a PSP. However, it is in very poor condition.
If you do buy it for them, make sure you teach them to put CD's back in the cases after use, and generally to look after it. Otherwise, there's no point buying it for them.
Don't buy GTA: Liberty City Stories or Vice City Stories for them either, it's too violent.
you might be starting him on video games a little too young. If you do it now, hes going to beg you for the most advanced systems and maybe even become lazy.
One question you have to ask yourself:
Is he mature enough?
no kids are smarter than people think get him one but you might wanna watch what games he is playing. i have been playing video games since i was six i am not lazy i got a good job i got good grades in school and i dont live in my parents basement so go for it.
YES~ get him a leapster or something else that is geared for 6 year olds instead of 16 year olds
Why would you want to start your son on video games so early? He will be destined for a life of couch potato-ness. Get him a bike, or a sled, or books, or something to pull the creativeness out of him.
am sure he is smart enough to play with it depending on the games some games are educational... but he better be spending more time with outdoor excersie ... or if u really wish to get him one ,,, make a time for it like only 1 hour a day and the rest he goes out and play
No, he's not too young. There are plenty of games that he can play that are suitable for his age group. I was about that age when I got my first video game system. And it did not prevent me from reading, playing outside, or being a normal child. We've always had video games in my house, and its not a big deal.
All these other ppl need to chill out...video games are not going to kill your kids...relax.
no, but if you were to get him anything, get him a nintendo ds, the games are more appropriate for his age, not to mention cheaper.
That is the age we got our oldest two their Game Boy SP. The Sony PSP is out of our price range. Just put a limit on it.
