What is a healthy weight to start trying for pregnancy?
I am asking this because my fiance and I will be getting married in march and are ready to start our family! :)
I weigh over 300 lbs right now, but I'm fairly healthy physically. I'm on a great, healthy diet, and am continuing to lose a healthy 2 pounds or so a week... I take my vitamins, and exercise, and take good care of myself.
This, of course, is NOT something I'm rushing into... I won't have a baby unless I know both me and baby would be healthy and happy.
I realize the risks of pregnancy related diabetes, high blood pressure, etc... but let's say there's an accident or something and i do end up pregnant:
What is the highest possible weight that you could be and still make it successfully (and with good health for mommy and baby) through a pregnancy?
Thanks very much everyone!
Answer:
there is going to be a lot of personal variation in here, but some women who are you size can get pregnant and successfully carry a baby to term.
One thing to be aware of is that many heavier women naturally do not gain as much weight in pregnancy, your body will do it's best to regulate itself.
Sounds like you are on a great path for your health, and if you continue to eat a healthy diet and try to be as active as possible, you will most likely have a successful pregnancy if it does happen before it's planned.
(and btw, breastfeeding is a GREAT way to lose weight, so even if you aren't at your goal when you get pregnant, that will help you get there afterwards)
obviously you should be as close to your ideal wight as possible...with that said, you should really talk to your doctor about this. There are many factors of pregnancy that can be further complicated by obesity. I am obese myself, but I have had 2 successful pregnancies. At my first preg. I was about 190 lbs and I gained about 35 lbs and never lost them so when I started my second preg. I was 225 and got up to 242. Since the birth of my second baby, I am back down to 225. Trying to ultimately get down to maybe 155 or so...lol...
The main thing to consider is your current health. Is the obesity affecting your blood pressure (or any other health factor) already? If so, then you should definately lost weight to a point that the blood pressure is under control. But like I said earlier, the BEST thing you can do is consult your Dr.
p.s. I have a friend who is around 300 lbs and she had a successful pregnancy, too. We BOTH had to have c-sections which is an almost certainty with being overweight. Since she was more overweight than me, she had slightly more complications with her recovery...but it's been 3.5 years and all is well. Good luck with your future pregnancy and I hope everything works-out for you.
how tall are you i am 5'8 and my doctor first reccomended to me when i was first pregnant about 150 pounds also the average women who falls pregnant at my height is around 145-155 pounds im a midwife and just see some studies through trials ect.
you can have a successful pregnancy at 300lb but its best to lose atleast 100lb so you dont develop diabetes ect or have a low weight baby or small for dates baby.
i hope this helped like i said it really does depend on a lot of things not just normal weight people have normal pregnancies in fact underweight people have just as much complications if at all any goodluck with your weightloss.
hi,
I was told by my doctor that the less you weigh, the less risk there is involved. and It's supposed to be much easier to conceive. I have a friend who is 250lbs. and she had a baby in november and it was perfect, no problems at all.
good luck :)
First of all, Congrats on the Wedding! As for your question, I am also a bigger girl (5'9" and 330) and what I would suggest is going to your Doctor or Gyno and getting a physical. Have your Dr. check for PCOS if you've ever had any problems with irregular periods. Start taking a prenatal vitamin and drink a glass of orange juice every morning for folic acid...it's a good boost when your trying to conceive. What my Gyno told me is that I should be down to about 250 to significantly reduce my risk for diabetes and some other major complications. And just FYI, if you DO happen to get pregnant before you feel "comfortable" with your weight, not everyone gains weight while pregnant. My Dr told me that at my weight if I were to get pregnant, losing weight would not be a bad thing, as long as I was still getting enough nutrition for the baby. But like I said, the best thing would be to go to your Dr and just have a standard physical and ask all the questions you have. They're the only one's really qualified to give you the green light. I hope everything works out for you! Good luck!
The best thing for you to do its talk to you doctor because he/she knows your health history and depending on your height can help you determine the best weight for you to be at without risking yours or the baby's health
Good Luck and Congrats on the diet so far!!
OK my doctor tells me that i need to lose weight to ovulate i weigh 215 and they say that i might have diabetes that my weight might need to go down before i will become prego, so if you have a regular period you will be fine!! you may not need to at all, but ask your OBGYN ! ok Good Luck!!
I have read all these and they are all good, it is what you want do you want to lose a little more get around 225 then go for it..god bless and have a good day.
